It's probably after 18.5s - also, as the car spins around, the steering wheel is clearly sticking out between the roof (now compressed) and the dash.
The space normally occupied by the driver was seriously reduced.

there is something wrong with this video, bits have been edited the car rotates 180degrees to face the camera vehicle in one or two frames of film then a few seconds later the driver appears to be hanging out of the windscreen then again a frame later he's back inside the car could be a glitch on the camera some cheaper cameras skip frames but it seems a bit weird there is clearly a driver and a passenger, i actually think its the driver who climbs out at the end but there is no sign of a second person at 20sec just before the second impact, you can actually seen the road through the window but no 2nd person?
may have been thrown in the first impact.

he may have gotten out of the car but he'd received a pretty hard blow to the head by the looks of it so could still have been very badly injured

It looks awful for the driver if he is in there but by repeatedly pausing it half way through the impact it looks like he was thrown out through the windscreen. Also, the lady who walks up shows no reaction when she looks into the car for anyone else.

I know what Ahmett is saying, but there for the grace of God go all of us.

Unfortunately i`m sure we see some drivers like this daily ,some get lucky and miss an accident by a split second ,some cause deaths for others and for what a 1 min shorter time arrival:mad:

Nothing to do with the 500, but maybe a reminder of (some) man's infinite stupidity...

When I first saw this video clip
1. I couldn't understand the stupidity of the driver
2. why did the 124 / Lada lose control ?

A friend of my dads was proud of a 125S which was probably a different setup but still had the live rear axle. Still the 124 was rallied and did OK.

Are cars from the 70s safe on the roads that we have today ? And would ESP have really saved idiotic drivers like the one that we just saw ? He was really lucky to survive. I hope he does not pull another stunt like that one again because he could cause more than just one fatality.

Michael i dont think its possible to lose control like that on a car with ESP.

I'm not expert enough to 'work out' what exactly happened. Initially got the impression that the car understeered since he couldn't seem to change direction quickly enough. Sometimes manufacturers 'dial in' understeer on RWD cars for safety e.g. the MGF which results in a car that can be quite treacherous. Personally I wouldn't drive a RWD car without stability control fitted as standard (I learned my lesson with a MX5 ). I honestly don't know if ESP would have 'saved' this situation. I hope he gets a ban for a least 12 months and for life if he's involved in another incident like that.

Everyone is fitted with ESP as standard. It's called a bum, in combination with your head (that's the yaw sensor covered), working in cahoots with the right foot (that's the traction control sorted).

Having owned an MGF and having some great fun with it in wet, ice, snow and otherwise; I wouldn't say they're dangerous - just drive being mindful of the fact it's a mid engined car and could be quite flighty in poor conditions. The amount of mechanical grip *without* any electronics on a car like this is simply staggering, I wish the 500 had Hydragas suspension, that's for sure.
