General clips for securing CV boots

When putting the driveshafts back in, i used a funny looking wire cable tie to secure the inner CV boot to the driveshaft. It's come loose, and covered the place in CV grease. The cat has a liberal coating too, which smells ineteresting when i stop!

Anyhoo, I think i got the clip out of a universal cv kit. I want a new one, but can't seem to find a suitable clip anywhere. All i have are plastic cable ties and jubliee clips (not good for keeping the shaft balanced!).

What are the clips called that i should be using, i had a quick look in 'frauds but didnt see anything. Was in a rush though.

Use the plastic cable ties, as long as they're the ones about 5mm wide and not 3mm wide they'll do the job lovely and are a lot easier to fit than the metal clips.

trying to secure my cv boots todays, whats the best method to use. ive got these metal clips that u pull around but they keep slipping.

ive read the post about using cable ties but am not convinced. been told that (nylon clips is it?) are now an mot failure so cant see how cable ties would pass an mot

any help would be much appreciated

cable ties are fine,ive used them plenty of times (turbo has fetching yellow ones)and some cv kits come with them

The best method is the stainless banding, which requires a special tool, but they do work superbly.

You can get them on with some stubby nose pliers, but are a real pain in the arse to do :bang:

Why struggle and risk damage when the correct tool is available

Because it needed doing and dont have the tool in the garage

But you must have bought the parts, most good auto-shops selll them as well as the specialist tool suppliers.
