I drove off and noticed that the heater was not warming up. Work is 45 miles away and, although the car was running slightly warmer than normal, it was not until I got stuck in heavy traffic near my destination that it really started to overheat.

When I got into the company car park there was steam coming from underneath.

At lunchtime I checked and there was no coolant in the radiator, so I refilled it and, when I drove home after work, I had no further overheating and there was no steam when I switched off the engine in my driveway. No coolant appears to have drained out.

Please save my baby!

so basically you ran out of coolant, and have re-filled it so now it should be ok?

if it happens again then it could be your head gasket

:yeahthat: When was the last time you checked coolant levels? My punto used to lose about 1/2l in 6 months without any leaks I could find, at that rate if the coolant hadn't been changed for a few years it could get to the point where the radiator was getting airlocks in it and then you'll have very rapid boil off due to overheating problems.
