General cinq goes bang

a mate of mine used to own a cinq900 but one day after comin back from shoppin (guess u no its a gal now rite!? ;p) the right speaker was on fire. her and her mate both jumped out the car and about a minute later the whole thang blew up. i am not makin this up, ive seen the actual scortch marks in the road. she brought in a half melted cinque badge to my lesson which was the only thing salvaged
got me kinda worried, any one else heard any other horror stories!?

plausible, right speaker on fire.. the fuel tank is on the that side.. seems rather unlikely tho.. an isolated incidident

hmmm, after reading this.... how do i check if my fuel tank was replaced at recall?

AFAIK you can take your chassis number to Fiat and they can tell you on the computer system

The recall has ended though so if it does need doing, you're looking at an expensive job

Scuse me for being suspicious, but.....

I can understand an electrical short under the dashboard, probably a wire trapped or rubbing against a metal bit. That can lead to a fire under the dash which can spread very quickly.

Where the leap to the fuel tank came in I can't understand. Fuel is not the most flammable thing under the bonnet of your car. Brake fluid is far far worse. It doesn't even need a naked flame to ignite. Most fires in car accidents are caused by the reservoir breaking off the master cylinder and brake fluid landing on a hot manifold.
