Hi
I am new to this forum. I bought a fiat qubo a couple of months ago. It is mobility converted and I use it to take my mother to and fro her day centre and to take my arthritic dog for her hydro and physio
I am happy with it except for the error message that has now happened three times
After driving happily for 20 minutes the beeper goes off and the auto gearbox is stuck in third gear. A message appears that says "check your transmission"
I pull over and turn off. Have to leave it for 10 minutes before I can restart.
If I try to start before the 10 minutes I get a whole run of error messages
Stop start disabled
Depress brake (I always depressed brake when starting)
Refer to handbook
Operation not permitted

Does anyone have any ideas of what is happening?
Another thing to mention on all three occasions I have just been round a roundabout.
Thank you

The gearbox is probably what is known as Dualogic. This is a manual gearbox, operated automatically by hydraulic servos mounted onto the gearbox. The hydraulic system has its own reservoir of oil, and I'd guess it needs topping up, as a roundabout may cause it to surge away from the pump pickup.
Downside is that if it need topping up, it may have a leak.

You need a Fiat dealer, or Fiat specialist. An Alfa specialist may also be able to help, as Alfas had this system earlier and Alfa specialists may have more experience of it as a result.

Hopefully as you've only had it two months, you had some sort of warranty. Minimum would usually be three months, so don't delay if it is about to run out. Go back to where you bought it and get them to sort it. But if they just top it up, ask a couple of questions.
1. Did they use the special Fiat oil for this purpose?
2. Why did it need topping up, and have they sorted any leaks?

Ask for some sort of receipt or description of work done. Although under warranty, you may need to prove this was a fault within warranty if it recurs.

The symptoms also sound like a sticking pump motor, which can be cheaper and easier to fix than a leak. As above, an Alfa specialist is probably your best bet if not covered under warranty.
How many miles has it done?

Hi Katy57.Have a look at the thread I posted 23-11-2016 headed Auto transmission light illuminated. With so many fault lights coming up it is likely to be an electrical issue. The rear light cluster appears to be an issue with the Qubo.
Please read my thread from 1st to last.

Hi, Just this morning have changed the brake light switch on mine, just every so often when gently on the brakes the 'check transmission' warning has come up. A few Qubo owners have had to replace brake switches, seems fairly common at a certain age......
Will run mine now for a few days & post up on here if indeed its solved the problem.
Cheers Qube O.

Hi Katy57
With that small mileage I think either brake switch or loose/dirty connector are definitely the most likely (that's really good news!).
Good luck, hope it's an easy fix.

Thank you all for the replies. I took it to my local garage where he put it on a diagnostic machine. It came up with two error codes. One was brake switch and the other was service brake switch. He cleared the messages and said to take it back to him when it happens again.
Looks like you are right.
Thank you
I will let you know what happens next

Went out yesterday, recorded 233 miles traveled, no warnings at all. Will do a few more miles, but looks like my problem was indeed the brake light switch. Only a few pounds off ebay, a bit of a fiddle to fit, but hey-ho job looks like being a good un...............
Cheers Qube O.

As you were all so helpful I thought I would do an update. Had a new brake light switch fitted at my local garage. It was just under£50 so fingers crossed it does the job.
Many thanks

Mine was done a few couple or so weeks ago, cars covered I guess 500/600 mile, no sign of the warning coming up..............so fingers crossed for both of us.
Cheers Qube O.

Hi everyone,

i recently purchased a used Fiat grande punto dua logic 2007 model. It has done 49700 miles and unfortunately i'm facing the same issue as you guys. I continuously get the message, "Check Transmission, See handbook" message which the car is running. I am still able to do Up and Down shifts manually but don't know the reason of this issue. Any luck with you guys? Did you finally get rid of this issue?

Update: took my car to the mechanic yesterday, he said that your brake switch is probably broken. He seemed pretty confident about it. i'll go today and collect the car, hoping that this will solve my issue.

Final Update: Picked up my car from the mechanic 2 days back. He replaced the brake switch which he said was broken. Showed me the error messages as well: one was the brake switch, the other msg was about some selespeed. i didn't read the second one properly. So as of two days i've been driving the car and i haven't seen the check transmission msg yet. the car drives well and all gear changes work fine. Will keep monitoring in case the msg pops up again.

Good news then.............happen those of us who have had these switches changed have been warning message free since............just a shame folk can spend mega money trying to fix what is really a very simple problem.......
Cheers Qube O.

QubeO... how on earth did you get the braje light switch out? I've been attempting it all day and given up. There's no videos online for the type of brake light switch qubo's have? Did you just break the old one getting it out or do you have a miracle solution? TIA. Jenni

Haha, Was a bit of a swine...........no didn't break it, though that may have been down to luck. Had the wife hold down the brake pedal to take the pressure off the switch ,then managed to push the little lugs in and wriggle it out. The new one just clipped into place easy..............good luck.
Cheers Qube O.

I had the same problem on my fiat Bravo 2010 MultiJet Diesel Dualogic. The issue was the breakswitch. I simply took it out stripped the switch down (carefully popped it open using a thin pry tool) and then I could extend the length of the switch button itself (there was a small circlip that when popped out allows you to extend the length of how far the button sticks out of the switch, and then you pop the circlip back in once the length is right for you). I found on mine the problem was that the button was not sticking out far enough for the break pedal to fully depress it when nothing is pressing on the break pedal. This resulted in the car thinking that the break was still being pressed while your foot was off the break. This in turn confused the car so it wouldn't auto shift up gear. Once I extended the length of the button by one ring on the circlip and put it all back together and reattached the switch everything worked fine. Agreed buying a new one might be easier but if you are feeling brave you could try to fix it yourself as the switch on mine was just a plastic casing with sprung steel and springs inside, no electronics so worth a go ?
