Panda (Classic) Charmanda(er) - mania continued......

Introduction

So having been amused at everyone guessing who have bought Char' I own up, t'was me :nerner:

Obviously having just picked up today I don't really have much to say, but I am a happy bunny. I have many plottings going on in my head as to what to do with it - you'll just have to wait and see what happens in the long term, in the short term gonna pretty much leave it and enjoy panda-life for a bit.

Anyway, everyone like pics over waffling... ;)

Got a lift from Simon in exchange for a full tank of fuel (should have half left still i think lol).

Few hours and a pitstop to eat a Subway for brekkie and then.... A wild Charmander appeared :D

Was not the best weather on the drive back but Char' ran faultlessly

Stopped about halfway home for quick pitstop and to get a pic to share on facebook for all the people guessing what I had bought before it got too dark.

And finally made it home - was mildly amusing getting out the panda to move my alfa forward a touch and practically stamping a hole through the floor cause its such a light pedal compared to the panda.... I hate to think what it would be like going from panda to suzuki as that is way way way lighter pedals than even the alfa.

All 3 fit on the drive, albeit quite close together.. But the garage is empty and Char' will live in there when not being driven - just couldn't be bothered to move all the cars around after being in the car all day.

yeah i considered that.... but unnecessarily huge amounts of money for what is there. You don't even get the bushings for all that money either - total rip off lol.

I am tempted to buy them 2 little plastic bits (part no. 7668397) - not found anywhere to get these from so will see how they look when removed and go from there, and I am assuming i have new nylock nuts the right size somewhere amongst the millions of nuts and bolts in the garage. Washers are washers, they look fine so not changing them and the little spacer things (part no. 7668397) i asked Vern and he tells me they are made of metal so I'm gonna presume they are ok and not hugely worn. And the bars themselves look to be totally fine, don't even need a lick of paint or anything so not worred about that either...
The only other thing that i might end up buying there is the support thingys the stabilisers bolt to at the front (part no. 4402674 & 4402674) but I am gonna wait until i take them off and measure the holes for wear before buying a pair of them, but i have not forgot them don't worry - partsworld sell them, new and genuine ones so if needs be I can get a pair.

Engine upgrade?

Do you want a just nicely run in 999cc carbed FIRE engine or 999cc Fuel injected FIRE engine (both fitted with 4x4 cams) which will be surplus to requirements once Freddie gets his finger out! :p

OK, so it was a nice morning here so I went the long long way home after dropping the mrs at work, would have been rude to no take some pics ;)

These are all taken within a few miles of my house, I do so love the area I live in - such a pretty part of the country!!

And he also has a new sticker :)

It's red again! :worship:

How could you get rid of those beautiful wheels though, whatever you replace them with they better be damn good (y) (Although putting wider tyres on it would help a lot...)

Quite a little addictive drive down the lanes don't you think? Keep it at high RPM and it's... well its still slow but its great fun! I think the tach makes it even better (it came all the way from Cyprus of all places )

its half red again lol... I done the passenger side and the bonnet and then the weather halted proceedings. The roof, boot and drivers side still need doing. And then the whole lot needs polish and wax. One weekend soon will be sunny for more than a half hour and I will get it done.

And tbh, most of the lanes are too bumpy to get at any kind of rate - and i spent about 20 mins this morning following a lass on a horse, tiny one lane track with no passing places so was pretty much tickover in 1st. Still, fun as it is hammering it along I find it so theraputic just bumbling along slowly in it too (y)

Oh and I do quite like the wheels, just want that known... I just want something a little wider really. VmanC was gonna send me some pics of his wheel stash for a possible swaps but we shall see.

I've been agonising over what I would let go, most of them I don't think you'll like (5 spokes etc), but I have a couple of possibles I'll PM you.

Todays booty. 2x outer cv kits, included are the CVs, boots, boot clips, grease & hub nuts.
Only few more bits left to arrive and then it'd back to saving a bit to get the rest of the needed (well perhaps need is a bit strong... but want to just replace the lot and then get tracking done just once). Will prob have to wait for another pay day to buy the last load of bits

So as predicted, students pattern is completely different but look at the pretties.
I guess the boss on it might be multi-pcd type - will have to take it off and look. Not major biggy if not, just have to buy a new one.

Right, ordered some more bits, wheels bearings and track rod ends... I think now if I ignore changing the shocks and top mounts for now, once everything ordered arrives I have all the bits that means I won't have to dismantle stuff I just put together and can do the whole lot in one go. Then I will get new top mounts and shocks next month, I don't do loads of miles and pretty sure I can get the tracking near enough for a month or so until the shocks and top mounts are renewed..

...I will get new top mounts and shocks next month,...

I know it's against general rule, but you can replace the front shocks and top mounts without dismantling the bottom.

Go for gas shocks, Bilstein does B4 for panda
£150 front pair, £110 rear pair

Looks like someone gone a bit crazy with the replacement parts...

Yeah I know - its not so much about dismantling that bit, more that the bushings are so old I am sure the tracking will need doing after changing the top mounts. Actually getting in there to change them looks pretty easy - or no harder than other cars I done.

I really wanted Monroe gas shocks, but really can't find a pair or either front or rear annoyingly. Was looking at KYB gas shocks, seems reasonably priced but I'll have a look at bilsteins too, hadn't looked as they normally so expensive (I know, I know, you get what you pay for - and they are top quality)

moi? don't know what you mean :p
