Panda (Classic) Charmanda(er) - mania continued......

Introduction

So having been amused at everyone guessing who have bought Char' I own up, t'was me :nerner:

Obviously having just picked up today I don't really have much to say, but I am a happy bunny. I have many plottings going on in my head as to what to do with it - you'll just have to wait and see what happens in the long term, in the short term gonna pretty much leave it and enjoy panda-life for a bit.

Anyway, everyone like pics over waffling... ;)

Got a lift from Simon in exchange for a full tank of fuel (should have half left still i think lol).

Few hours and a pitstop to eat a Subway for brekkie and then.... A wild Charmander appeared :D

Was not the best weather on the drive back but Char' ran faultlessly

Stopped about halfway home for quick pitstop and to get a pic to share on facebook for all the people guessing what I had bought before it got too dark.

And finally made it home - was mildly amusing getting out the panda to move my alfa forward a touch and practically stamping a hole through the floor cause its such a light pedal compared to the panda.... I hate to think what it would be like going from panda to suzuki as that is way way way lighter pedals than even the alfa.

All 3 fit on the drive, albeit quite close together.. But the garage is empty and Char' will live in there when not being driven - just couldn't be bothered to move all the cars around after being in the car all day.

edit: Just for info in future, links to previous owners
last owner: Didge3 - thread
owner before last: VmanC - thread
OK, another question for you people of more knowledge... (I must say its odd to me being the person not in the know and receiving the advice, give me a couple of years and I'll be a panda pro lol)

So I am getting 2 different part numbers for inner CV boots, are they really different?!

And gearbox oil, what should it have if I were to drain and refill it? I have a few litres of TUTELA ZC 75 SYNTH left over from my cinq/sei days, wondering if thats ok for this box.... The labelling is a bit vague on its specs but from there website:
Petronas said:
Specification
API GL 5
MIL-L-2105 D Performance
SAE 75W-80
If you read the blurb on the site as well you learn that it does have EP additives as well.

Thoughts, opinions?

ah i was expecting proper arguments then. To be honest I'm not totally up on all the different types of oil and what all the codes mean - I tend to just stick in what is recommended by Fiat, never found it to be highly expensive to just do that.

In that thread (which is admittedly old) people are saying the ZC90 is really expensive but it just isn't - litre bottles are like a 10'er. So £30 and you got a little bit spare for top-ups if required. I will prob just get some of that.

My to buy list is getting very long though, gonna have to do some saving i think.

That or just use 20/50 mineral engine oil from memory (of the many, gearbox oil discussions that have been had in my relatively short time in this part of the forum)

well since i posted that i have spent another £110, earlier i spent about £90 so today i'm nearly at half what i bought the car for so I am definitively way over what i spent on the car.

I started a spreadsheet of things i want to buy and the stuff i have got prices for that i still haven't bought is about £140 - and its far from complete!!

I'm not moaning here! It will all be worth it (y)

New steering wheel ordered :D Not actually sure the stud pattern is the same as the existing aftermarket wheel but fingers crossed its that easy a swap... Its way more sexy (y) Will post picture when it arrives, might be a little while as its coming from overseas, but its standard Abarth Autobianchi A112 wheel.

OK so removed the ignition box thing.
Redone the crimp connectors to make sure they are all good.
Cleaned some earth connections.
Changed the coil to the new bosch one.
Then found a black wire with a ring style connector not connected to anything, looks like it's not been disconnected for a huge period of time but couldn't work out where it might have been connected so just used somewhere convenient near it to earth it. The wire comes from under the sound deadening at the rear of the bay, passenger side, it goes into a big bit of harness near the wiper motor but I traced it no further.
Well after that went for a spin and can report that so far it's working fine, have stuck my suzuki in the garage and am once again average panda ?

So more bits arrived today... this time inner cv boot kit, gearbox oil and gear lever linkage rebuild kit... quite excited about that last one, there is so much free play in the selector linkages!

lol - so many more parts to arrive before i do anything really... I guess I can do the gear selector rebuild, thats a standalone job.

I bought the front stabliser bushes and after that though well you know, they are connected to the control arms so I 'll get some of them too... And I kinda snowballed from there, arms are connected to the ball joint on the spindle thing so I'll get them too. And If I am changing them I may as well fix the clicking CV and if I do that I may as well do both sides, so I may as well do all inner and outer boots, why not refresh the box oil at the same time i hear you say, check. And you know if its all apart why don't i stick new wheel bearings on as well.

I just can't help myself. I have front top mounts sat in a basket as well but i think I will leave that (and shock dust covers) for another time - prob get some nicer shocks at the same time as that - really wanted some moroe reflex but I can only find 1 front and 1 rear. Seems like they stopped making them and noone has any stock left. So maybe KYB ones but I will decide when it comes to buying them.

The steering wheel I bought..? Well that was just an impluse buy cause it was pretty.

Yes, yes I know, I have a problem  Still there is worse things to spend money on.

Well if you're doing all that, I'll just leave this here......
