Can changing the rear brakes be a DIY job or should I take it to the garage?

Ive already bought the brakes, as my friend (mechanic) was going to fit them, but hasnt had time.

I did the rear brakes on mine, wssn't too hard. The most annoying bit is getting the springs on as I think they were designed to be put on by the incrdible hulk.

As long as you've got all the tools ready its not a bad job and shouldn't take more than an hour and a half. Get some aerosol brake cleaner to get all the crap out of the brakes and drums when u've got the old ones out, and don't get any oil near those new shoes!

While ur swapping the brakes over have a check of the handbrake lever mechanisms, they are notorious for seizing up and making ur handbrake completly unusable (the reason I changed my rear brakes was because of these!) don't bother trying to free them up if they're seized, just go off to Fiat and buy some new ones, but work some grease into the pivots before you stick them in!

hope this is of help!

Also check the pistons are free on the brake cylinders as one of mine had seized and was locking the brakes up, made it a swine to get the drum off.
