Hi - my central locking is haywire :bang:

The passenger door lock doesn't work with a key at all.

The drivers door lock opens only the drivers door.

The remote usually does bugger all but occasionally opens both doors for about half a second before they lock again.

When I open the passenger door from the inside the lock mechanism tries to lock it constantly until the door closes. Then it locks then unlocks.

Dodgy relay? Can I fix it with parts from a scrap cinq or would it be just as easy to get a new generic remote locking system of ebay?

Figure I should get this sorted before I start smoothing ;)

Thom...

Not had this problem on the Cinq but have had it with other cars I've owned

The solutions were....

For the Vauxhall - Broken wires where they passes though by the hinges

For the Rover the contacts inside the door were the problem stripped the door cards off an cleaned the contacts

For the Ford loads of WD40 into the lock and worked it about for a bit (Start with this if I were you)

The central locking on both of minre went haywire, and on both it was corrosion in th driver's side central locking actuator. It a white plastic thing. Take it out of the car, prise it apart, gently clean printed circuit board thingy. Spray with Duck oil and reverse the disassemly procedure to stuff it back together again.
