From what I’ve seen it’s a straight forward job but….
Beware of the rusted bolts!!!
Getting the heat shield off is fun! But if you happen to break one of the studs trying to undo a rusty bolt….. oh christ on a bike!
New gasket is needed too!
Before you go get it replaced what type of knocking noise is it? Heavy light metallic soft
I'm suspect of the diagnosis "knocking noises" are generally not the cat, a rattle yes but not heavy knocking, check anything that could cause issue, exhaust and probably front suspension.
What age is the car?
Has anything been replaced recently?
Does it make a noise stationary when the throttle "blipped"?

Of course without actually hearing this noise we can only offer advice but I'd agree, "knocking" is not a term I'd generally apply to a mechanically damaged Cat. "Rattle in a tin can" would be more likely?
