Technical catalyst fiat tempra 8V '98

hello to all,
found a noise in the lower part of the car,
i thinking drainpipe unsecure..
but the mechanic said catalyst broken,
do you think it's true?
i hear a noise like tube not fixed

Do you need a catalist where you live?
If not swap it for a straight pipe....!!
