Does any one know if the cargo box and lid is strong enough to support my German shepherd in the boot of the car. I have the back seats down most of the time and would like a nice level surface for her to lie on. There will be a dog bed on top of it, so pressure will be spread over the whole lid.

Hi doggydoctor,

I just saw your PM by the way!:)

Anyway, I thought I would answer on here so as to help others.

The cargo box should support the weight of your dog without any trouble due to the way it is designed. You can see the bit underneath the cover in my pics here, it just sits on top of the boot floor, spreading out any weight that is put on it:

I assume you already have your Panda; as far as I can see, the only way you can get hold of the cargo box is to order it as an option. It's not an accessory so to speak.

Thank you.
I do already have my panda. Bought it as an ex-demo model, otherwise I would definitely chosen the cargo box. At the moment I am using a piece of foam cut out at the right size and thickness with a waterproof cover to fill the boot so it's flat, but it would have been so nice to still use hat space to store things in.
You are not looking at selling yours by any chance?

It is possible to order it but it is more expensive than an option with new car so I decided not to buy it. 120 EUR if I remember correctly. Just go to your Fiat dealer and ask him to look at the configuration tool on the computer for part number.

I guess I'll get in touch with the dealer again and see if they can order it for me. I don't mind paying a bit more.

Thank you.

To be honest I hardly use the cargo box, but the odd occasion that I do it does come in really handy. So I wouldn't really want to sell it. Not unless you want to blow me away with some ridiculous offer anyway...:p(y)

Sounds like you have come up with a good solution though. And fingers crossed your dealer will be able to get hold of one. I agree it would make the world of difference for you as you could still use the cargo tray to put bits in the boot.

I just picked up my Cargo Box at the weekend. I paid £109 for it, shame I couldn't have got it as a £50 option (along with a couple of other extras), but I didn't want to wait the 8-12 week delivery time when a good deal was available on a 1.2 Lounge that was in stock!
I bought it to store a couple of essentials that would normally be rolling around in the boot. I also liked the idea of a flat loading area. Its a bit deeper than I imagined (and therefore reduces capacity a bit) but on balance I think its worthwhile.
When ordering it, it wasn't clear if it came with a replacement floor/cover of if you used the carpet that is already there. Thankfully I can conform that it comes with new lid/cover that I think will comfortably take the weight of your german Shepard.
The only negative point is that the lid is located on a very flimsy "tag", made of the same expanded foam type material as the rest of the box (and the tyre repair kit holder), and unfortunately this had become broken in transit. The parts technician has already ordered a replacement! In normal use, I think (hope) it shouldn't get damaged.

Thanks for confirming it can be ordered. Do you happen to know the part number by any chance?

Yes, great post there - learn something new every day!

£109 is possibly a bit steep, but then again I guess there is no other option except for the odd one that might appear on Ebay etc, so maybe it is a fair enough price.

As you say, it does eat into the vertical depth of the boot quite a lot, but it all depends on what you want to have in the boot. And of course if you need to have the full boot capacity you can just take it out whenever you like.

The flat payload is great too, for those who never saw my post before, see post 4 of this thread::D

The only part# I can find on the invoice is 0735558578. It took about a week to come in from Italy.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the part number. I guess £109 is quite a lot, but I might treat myself. It would means. Lot to get the toolkit from under the driver seat and be able to store things like umbrellas, fluorescent jackets, warning triangle, bulb kit and other things some European countries require.

Hi,
Do you have the space saver spare wheel or an inflation kit. I have a spare wheel and would like to confirm the cargo box would fit with a spare wheel. I know it wasnt an option to order both from factory, but I presume that's because the cargo box won't fit if you need to use the spare wheel and then have a full size spare wheel in the boot.
£109 is a lot of money to spend to then find out it won't fit

I only have the inflation kit, so can't say for sure if the cargo box will work with a spare wheel, although the kit comes in a plastic moulding that fits in the wheel well. As the cover is the same for both options, I would assume the box would work with both.
When I bought mine, they'd never ordered one before so were a little cautious about if it was going to work or not. They assured me that if it didn't, they could send it back and refund my money. See if your dealer will do the same.

The cargo box has arrived, fitted it and is sits quite nicely. I think the space saver spare wheel sits slightly higher than the inflation kit does, but it seems to be ok.
If anyone is interested, I now have a tool insert for the spare wheel available.

Is that the foam to put inside the spare but cannot fit the 4x4 jack ?

Yes that's the one, it's actually plastic. I am not using it anymore as it was about an inch higher than the spare wheel, so the cargo box wouldn't fit over it. Plus the tool bag sits nicely in the cargo box.

Anyone looking to order the cargo box, either needs to use the part number mentioned earlier, or ask for the utility tray. Apparently it's called a utility tray as a part, yet if ordered with a new car, it's a cargo box? Fiat logic?

Hey triumph7,

I'm pretty sure you'll be fine with it. Even if the spare wheel sits a tad higher, I honestly don't think it would make a huge difference as it doesn't create a perfectly flat payload anyway.

And it should come with the carpeted lid too. Basically you can just arrange things in the polystyrene part of the box and then cover it with the lid in order to make the flat payload.

One thing I don't think I ever mentioned is that you need to be relatively patient when putting the box and lid in. It needs to go in at the right angle which can sometimes take a while...

Sorry I totally missed your reply. Has it gone yet ?
