hey guys, just wanna check put with you. are there any carbon fiber stuff for our beloved Bravos in the UK?
if you have, wanna check, how much would it be for a custom hood or spoiler?

I WISH there was carbon stuff readilly available. Just watch how quickly my credit card got me a new bonnet. I think Procomp would make us them, if we could place something daft like 30 orders

No-one.

Do you want carbon fibre for its looks or weight saving?

basically i would want carbon fiber for both really. it may no reduce weight like massively but still, it looks super good on you mate.
balrdy boring stuff looking at the same thing all over again. CF adds some spices to it brother.
i am gonna custom my hood and also the rear spoiler though and carbonize them.

u might be better gettting carbon sheets. u buy a few mm thick carbon fibre al ready resined up all u havew to do it cut it to the size u need and then.......... (dunno how u attach it as i havent worked this out lol) i thought u heated it up and it flops and stick it with resin but i dont think u do the more i look at it...

if this fails make ur own.... my old work place use to have carbon fibre on a roll and u just cut off wat u want and then resin is down.. dunno if u can get it any where..

Unless you are going to pay proper money to get the parts made I think you will find that carbon parts are no lighter than steel. CF is only really strong when you bake it in an autoclave and use exotic core materials such as nomex and ally honeycomb like the F1 teams do. If you use it like fibreglass its no stronger than FG and you have to back it up with lots of layers or layers of FG.

Smee, it doesn't work like that ;)

hows it work. i got a sheet laying around at a mates house will do my bonnet easyly. its rolled but but its hard... if u know at i mean. few mm thick. i got it free so if its wasted it dont matter but surely i can make a skin out of it and stick it down some how :S

If its hard then its been cured and it will stay that shape forever.

hmm piece of **** found this and was well happy. its hard and rolled up but can be made flat its got a small flex in it.

It could be prepreg in which case it needs to be baked in an autoclave.

smme you stick carbon down with a strong glue then you aplie three layers of resin then u sand the last layer down with 8o grid paper then you use a lacquer or a hardner i cant remember. i think it was in a car mag last month cant remember which one

Tom, an autoclave as in a pressurised STEAM cooker?

A friend told me you can get carbon stuff custom made for ANY car. If a few folk wanted it, i'm sure it'd be a bit cheaper to buy some bits. All i'd really want is a bonnet.... I'll look into it and see if he's tight..

hey Tom, thanks for the advise, but yup i know how carbon fiber stuff is made though.
the reason why i am asking is due to the fact that, i might be doing some replications
for the Bravos here in Malaysia. a good friend of my ventures into doing CF and we can
get it at relatively good price though. first thing i'd replicate is my rear spoiler and will be followed
by the hood. wondering how much it'd cost there in the UK. let's say, is £350 expensive for aCF hood?

depends mate... some jap crap civic hoods r 250 squid but there just plain. of a jap crap civic with a massive vent 400 squid. price is very up and down.

If u make bonnets i am interested ill ask my mate who is a importer how much to import a bonnet from mayo ;)

re

it does depend on whether its plain or not really,

plain bonets for saxo and r5 are baout 250 mark i think? not sure

Re: re

Doesn't matter if its plain or not, its still moulded the same way. The main cost will be materials and time.

Make it with 1/2" ally honeycomb :)
