I have a punto Mk2. I had an issue with the ECU and had to change it. Car worked fine for a few days and then one day after turning ignition on, the battery and anti theft lights turned on and it refused to start. I tried a lot of things, including putting back the old ECU to no avail. What ended up working is removing the negative terminal of the battery and putting it back after a few seconds. After that it started stopping at cruising speed and every time the battery and anti theft lights turn on and the car refuses to restart unless I disconnect and reconnect the negative terminal of the battery. It became so frequent that driving it became dangerous. I tried to check a lot lf things until I noticed that one of the spark plus cables was corroded a lot. I changed it and the problem disappeared until one year later when it stopped randomly with the same symptoms. It started repeating once in a while until I changed all spark plugs (it was due anyway) and the problem disappeared but not totally it would continue to happen once every few months. It is really scary when it happens and I have no clue what it could be nor why a faulty spark plug wire or faulty spark plug could stop a car instantly ! Any help would be appreciated.
