What could b happening, is the nut bad?
Are you talking about the cambelt tensiiner bearing seccentric mount for the timing belt ?
Just a thick washer on an 8 valve FIRE
Remove the washer and bearing.. check the thread
Do you need to remove the head?
You will need to check for bent valves..
Once you know its worth continuing.. YES its a STUD for a reason.. like the exhaust manifold studs.. they are designed to be easily replaced
Torqued it up and the tensioner slipped damaged valves I suspect.
How do you replace the stud? Can you even replace it.
Have you checked for bent valves?
Thanks, yes he did, but I'm not clear as to whether that was because he'd been rectifying bent valves or just because the gasket had blown? It's a strange way to word it if he'd had the head off because of bent valves? He responded to the last guy asking that question by saying he had just replaced the head gasket and then he was back into wanting to know about studs
