One rainy day car stopped at traffic light and start-stop switched off engine. At green light it try to start engine, cranks - but nothing.
And so it begins...
Had been towed car to home, it starts when towing, and works stable. After switching off - again not starting.
Then I changed fuel pump module - mileage near 200k km, filter integrated... So, it didn't help.
Towed a little again, it stared, but idle was bad and slow reaction to gas pedal. Also engine speed indicator works strange, with significant gap to real RPMs. Temperature indicator also tried move to cold.
Problems with ground wires! - I thought.
Checking all ground wires (5 near engine except one to front lights, one in trunk and one under drivers threshold) and battery negative cable too (year ago was problem with it). Additional cable from gearbox to body installed.
Nothing. Cranks fine, but isn't starting.
Checking OBD2 codes - only U1701(87) - inactive.
One day came man with diagnostic tool. He show one new error - second fan open circuit. (but Punto has only one fan, anyway it's fuse was blown. replaced, no effect).
He say than ECU show parameters and they are OK, except engine speed - when cranks it shows 0 or 200+ RPM, without smooth graph. No errors with disconnected crankshaft sensor.
If I disconnect crankshaft position sensor, it cranks, no revs shown and no errors. With crankshaft sensor car tries to fire one cylinder, but without this sensor - nothing.
Checked signal to coils - no signal. He ask to replace crankshaft sensor.
Today crankshaft sensor was replaced by new one - no changes.
When I crank - revs are shown on the dashboard and OBD2.
Today I had replaced spark plugs - old were black. After a several attempts they smell like petrol.
No effect - when cranks, only 1 cylinder try to start. If I disconnect camshaft position sensor - no try to fire one cylinder.

Strange things:
- no errors in ECU, if I disconnect crankshaft of camshaft position sensor.
- diagnostician say, that it's too big space between crankshaft sensor and pulley. As I see, it's 2..3 mm and should be 1 mm - how can I adjust it?
- from the moment of purchasing there are two lamps (ABS and "!") slightly glowing in the dark with ignition on. All worked fine, but they always glow.

I looked up all similar problems from this forum. Nothing works to me (and few posts was without solution).

What should i check further?

Edit:
By camshaft position sensor i means this little thing - 55209166:

(I don't know what it does in 8v)

Fusebox checked - clean, dry, no green traces.

You and your professional "diagnostician" both have no clue about cars. Tell him to switch job if he can't handle a Punto!
Take it to the real mechanic. Don't replace more parts (fuel pump without pressure check was not smart).

Picture you've posted is NOT a "sensor". Get your basics straight.
Read Italian "Service Manuale" (126 MB PDF file): http://download.fiatforum.bg/Books/Grande_Punto/

Check eLearn, diagrams (and Descriptions): https://aftersales.fiat.com/elearnsections/main.aspx?nodeID=199018425&languageID=2&markID=1&modelID=199000000&valID=199000001&prodID=199000000&modelName=Fiat - 199 - Grande Punto&langDesc=English&sectionName=Impianto Elettrico&validityName=1.4 8v

There is plenty of similar threads on forum. Even without solution, they provide a ton of clues. Search and read again.
U-series errors are about: power quality, communication, faulty modules (CAN network, ABS, AirBag, Blue&Me, radio), go figure.

Mechanical checks: timing belt job Guide (in Grande section). Yes, GRANDE is your main model to search the internet.
Most content is for "Grande", you'll not find quality data for "Evo" (but it's the same car).
Rough check ("eye balling" the timing) doesn't require special tools. Video example (non English).

"Crank, no start" is the most common automotive problem: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=crank+no+start !

Problem was crankshaft pulley, it has been destroyed.
VTT cam pulley was replaced too, as a timing belt (in service).
After replacement works fine...

After 50 km I get CEL with P0011 - intake camshaft on Bank 1 is timed too far advanced. "Kangarooing" at 1200...2000 rpm here too sometimes.
It's time to change oil anyway (not changed in service due to financial situation).
Will clean VVT solenoid too. Hope this will help. (CEL turned on on railway crossing, I really hope some dirt is a problem).

Edit1:
E-learn says,
Check the correct operation of the variable valve timing system solenoid valve using a loose wiring to Vbatt to check the shaft movement.
Will check with 12V supply.

Was it like that? Show us.

And it was replaced with? Original or cheap new one (with improper bolt hole pattern - it's NOT 3x120 degrees).

VVT solenoid is a PWM device, it is controlled like that. But yes, you can check with straight 12V (it will jump ON-OFF).

It can be disassembled and cleaned...

Plus OBD2 data log. Test drive.
