Technical Can you run without an ECU connected

I wrote a post about two weeks ago. It was too long. My question is has anyone run a Fiat 2000 without the connection from the ECU to the Throttle Switch Plate / Throttle position center connected? Recently realized my 81 Fiat Turbo delete has been disconnected. Car ran fine for quite a while in warm weather but now its super lean and will barely run. It has been colder outside so I don't know if that has effected it..
