As title really...

I'm getting alot of dimming on my interior lights and headlights when the bass kicks on my sub...

I have improved/upgraded the earth to the battery and also the engine to the chassis...

Any thing else i can do, as i looks like im flashing people when i crank my head-unit up?

Either a bigger battery, or possibly a power cap? I have no idea how power caps work, just that someone suggested it in lax flower or something like that...

you NEED to do the alt to battery connection. The reason lights dim is cos the alt supplies around 14v and the battery supplies 12v. Even with the worlds largest battery you WILL still get dimming as the alt voltage drops due to the current demand.

Don't get me wrong i expect some dimming, but when i stick my other sub and amp in, im afraid my lights will dim that much they will go off...lol

Like i said i've done 2 of the big three, but stopped at the alt.

There is a nice place on the alt. for a cable, but its marked as 1b+ so i thought i had better not (in case its live), it was getting dark so i left it before i could check with the multimeter...

How would you say the best way to earth the alt. is, because as far i could see (it was getting dark), there is no good earth point on it...

You don't earth the alt, its the live feed from the alt to the batt.

You need a CAP, it will solve the dimming, when the bass kicks in it drains the CAP first, the battery isn't affected. The battery keeps topping up the CAP. So in affect it'll never dim.

Worked for me. I bought a cheap £50 CAP from my local Audio supplier a year ago.

Bought a CAP, took it off after a week...lol

It uses the power faster than it can recharge...

(god forbid my lights should get any darker!!)

U couldn't enlighten me a little more re how to improve this alt to battery connection could you guys, cos am guna complete the wiring for my new amp n sub hopefully tomorrow (god willing, else I'm guna cry if it takes me another weeek before my cars back in one piece again).

What gauge wiring might I need and how long (and a complete novice such as my self should be capable of performing the switch shouldn't I, else Tom might have to get his big stick out again ;) )

Re: (god forbid my lights should get any darker!!)

I'm guessing i need to get a chunky cable and connect it from the positive on the alt to the positive on the battery..?

Daz, bingo :)

4 guage does the job perfectly and just about fits. No need for anything bigger unless you have a 200+A alt.
