Good day all. I was wondering if anybody could tell me what this cable is behind my left front wheel? I noticed a clicking noise whilst driving and after a bit of investigation found it loose.

I just wanted to check before I go to the garage and end up paying for a whole new engine. [emoji6]

Thanks in advance. 20170701_114912.jpeg

Its for brake pad wear warning light.
You can just tie it back on itself so it doesn't rub on anything . ask garage to reconnect it next service/mot .

When is your next service or mot test?

Do you have car serviced every year?

Questions are to give further advice.

The car is due a service as it's just hit 60,000 miles.

I haven't had it a year so it hasn't been serviced since I've had it. Although it's had new strut bearings, 4 new tyres and new rear wheel bearings.

If strut bearings recent whoever did them could have broken the wire.

If your front brakes start making grinding noise before next service get them replaced .

I'm going to book it in this week for service. It's all a bit clunky at the moment. Drives like a bag of spanners rolling down a hill. Thanks for your help. Really appreciate it.

As it's been said: it's the pad wear sensor.
That cable has one wire that grounds through the pad, once it wears down enough.

There is only one cable for one pad.
You have 4 pads only n the front ... so it's not really that useful as any of the others can wear down much further before the one with the sensor. In ideal conditions that will not happen, but the real world doesn't work like that.

So I am trying to say don't loose sleep over it.
Just use some zip-ties and electrical tape to make sure it doesn't touch the ground. It's not going to harm anything, but it will light up a yellow brake light on the dash.

I am totally with you , also think they are practically useless. Particularly in the UK where we have a yearly inspection by government trained inspectors.
On my own vehicles I don't bother with them.

The original poster is sensible to have a service as they mention other issues too.
