One thing that has to be said about this forum, your all mad for BHP and 0-60, whereas in the real world, or congested streets and speed camera's everywhere its just not that important.

Depends how good your brakes are ;) Lol

Why would you do this..... because you can. It makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.
(y) i'll second that. Owning an Abarth is not about thrashing the crap out of it on congested streets, It's knowing that you can if you want to and unbelievably funny when the peugeot, Nova, Escort Bling boys pull up next to you with this look on their face that says WTF is that.
I'll let them have their fun, they can pull away as fast as they like, i'll be the one smilling in the end. Nine times out of ten they'll slow back down to have another look. As soon as it comes to a road where i can use my car safely then bye bye chavs :D

I'm just trying to make some honest observations

now check it out 4 an honest observation

The point is that Fiat promised a lot with this vehicle and it hasn't delivered, poor design and even poorer quality,

when it is admitted even by the i-hate-all-italian-cars that it is on the top of the range as far as design is concerned and quality 2...

u see faulty cars are produced even by merc and bmw...as it seems u had one...

now i d suggest the mods 2 be more carefull and transfer this post immediatly to the jokes thread (if there is any)...

:D :D :D :D

I wish him good luck with the Focus. I've turned down a company Focus for the last two years in favour of my Stilo with a mileage allowance. I drove the previous model for a 12 month as a hire car. Yes it drove & handled well but was noisy and had hard seats and a poor quality interior. I had a new TDCi LX Focus a week or so back for a day. They've improved the interior but made it drive worse. The seats are still uncomfortable and the damn thing was as noisy as being inside an oil drum!! The steering is miles ahead of the Stilo though.

Me, I'll stick to my Stilo; despite the problems I've had with it I know where I'd rather spend 5 - 7 hunderd miles a week!!

Real world - ok, I leave my house, probably hit 60 quite quickly down some straight country lane. Take it easy for a mile or two through the village, then have about 17 miles of National country roads to travel on, interspersed with the odd village/crossroads/etc. I don't go past a single speed camera, speed van, or whatever, and that is a fact. I take the car to decent speeds, overtake where needed, and love every minute of my commute...

..I then hit some dual carriageways around my work town, and enjoy it there as well. Eventually have a slow 40mph then 30mph drive into the town, and park in a multistorey.

Point 1 - no congested streets

Point 2 - no speed cameras

Therefore I love BHP, I love having a car that has oodles of mid-range torque, and I love driving :)

I raced an abarth the other day just so i could see what it could do and how it sounded. The guy behind the wheel probably thought i was your typical 21 yr old idiot but meh i just wanted to know what it could do properly. I just love the abarth though nothing going on looks really over the normal versions except the skirts and rear spoiler but its just the way they go. how a car should be subtle with the engine doing all the talking not some cheap crappy bodykit.

And about fiats being badly built etc. had a 1.6 litre auto brava sx 3 years and over 40k later it never had a single problem never failed to start was always perfect. also had a tempra before that same thing could be said apart form the usual wear and tear think we had the clutch replaced that was it in around 6 years of owership. did do a lot of mileage though.

Fit a strut brace then see how the steering compares! (y)

@ Twea good luck with the focus(it's still a dagenham dustbin & will be back to the dealers more!) (n)

i have to agree with the focus thing the new one well the old one too was fugly.

Although im loving the new astra sports hatch. Currently looking at buying a new SRI spec'd one. I want the cool panaramic windscreen but not sure if im gonna be able to stretch to it yet or not along with the 18" rim upgrade and some other stuff.

its either that or a stilo but with the new stilo coming out next year kinda put me off buying the current model :/

Personally i don't think the new Stilo will make it out by next year. I really hope it don't, because i will feel compelled to buy one and I really don't wanna replace my car that soon.

Just the rumours saying it is just makes me not want to go and spend all that money when theres a possiblility that in say 12 months mines gonna be old news with a £14k price tag. kinda puts me off big time.

Where as the astra is a nice looking car only problem is its a vauxhall :/ no one in my family has ever owned a vauxhall so i have nothing to base my opinions on. We have pretty much always had fiats my grandad used to always buy fiats them my dad and i bought my clio after passing up a bravo because of the free insurance. now 3 years later after i take into consideration how much the car woulda cost to insure i have basically had the car for 3 years for free. since im gonna get back a fair bit from it due to the low mileage since i tend to drive my parents cars a bit more than my own.

its a 3 year old 16v clio with 11k on the clock and in absolutely mint condition. my first quote for insurance was over 2 grand due to where i live and the car was £8000

I do love the stilos have done sine they were released when my parents were thinking of trading in there brava for one. But never bothered wasnt suitable for my mum since shes in a wheel chair. She liked the 3 door didnt like the 5 door but wasnt practical enough with a wheel chair to contend with.

Im totally stumped though i have no idea what car i wanna buy they both have the good points and bad points. but both nice cars. astra is a bit nicer to drive though. handling wise which is why im thinking the new stilo looks rather more promising. If it gets some of the options the astra has such as the lowered suspension adaptive suspension etc that firms up at the press of a button will make it more appealing especially if they stick the big alfa lump in it....big grins all round then :D

Its also the reason im thinking of only keeping the next car for a year can sell it to my dad then.

feel sorry for twea. But anyway, all cars break down and the fact is that when a fiat does it gets blasted even more.
I love my fiats so does my dad. I will stay with them forever because they always put a smile on our faces!!! Excellent cars. and if you wanted economy rightly so you should have gone for a JTD.

:D Stilo: class, design, elegance, performance, exclusive car.
 Focus: lower class, lower design, performance (no comment, cannot compare 1.4 with 1.2), everybody has got it: exclusivity nil

This is the difference: the Stilo is a fantastic car for a few enthusiasts.
The Focus, instead, is just a good car for the mass.

He is probably missing the Stilo already,
:D

I don't have a Stilo so can't comment on build quality but I do have a 53 reg 1.2 Punto Sporting and while I love the car I have to admit that Fiat needs to start thinking seriously about the quality of the build of their cars.

In the 18 months of owning mine, the dealer has had it for a total of over 2 months having to replace things like "the pistons" (wrong size fitted in the engine build), instrument cluster, body computer, ignition switch, 2 alternators, crankshaft pulley and various other bits and pieces.

It is going to the dealer again for the fifth time next week for the same interior panel rattles.

I really do still love my Punto as it has quite sparkling performance for what it is, it looks good, it handles well and is turning out an around 55 mpg and although when the time comes I will probably consider another Fiat for my next new car, at this time, with all the problems and faults I have experienced I would have to say that unless there is a dramatic improvement in reliability and a more considered and effective attitude in Fiat dealer staff then I would not buy another Fiat.

Well when i owned a focus for almost 3 years I have to say the dealers were just as crap as Fiat dealers but for different reasons.

I felt like a nobody when my car went in for servicing, it was like i was one of the millions and just got herded through the proccess.

Yet if i go to a Fiat dealer i at least feel like i am the one in control. I make them listen to me and they do now. I used to let people fob me off with all sorts of crap but now i just speak my mind and I seem to get a lot of respect from them.

Shunter Im sorry to hear about your Punto but you have been very unlucky with your car.
If all Puntos around thw world had the same problems as yours the entire Fiat servicing network in Europe would collapse in a matter of minutes due to very high number of Puntos in circulation: unfortunately you have been unlucky and this can happen with every make and model.
It might also be that you have been dealing with an extremely negative/ incompetent dealer.
I can guarantee you that there are lots of Fiat owners who had several Fiats during their life and they have experienced the minimum of the faults, definitely below average for a car.
(y)
If you go the East of Europe one day (eg Poland or Romania) have a look around: there are still lots of 126,127, 131, Ritmo, Cinquecento...often over 30 years old and they still drive nicely around.
We cannot really say that Fiats are unreliable I am afraid. (y)
Fiat cars can randomly have problems, but all make can including the top of the class, even a Ferrari or a Porsche.
The vast majority of cars produced by Fiat are without a glitch but those owners are not going to bother to post here of course.

The amazing thing is that if the 1.2 Stilo felt underpowered the 1.4 Focus will actually feel even worse!! The Stilo 1.2 actually has marginally more BHP (82bhp vs 79bhp) than the focus and (in 3 door form at least) weighs quite a bit less. Your probably beginning to realise what a great idea it was to mate a small engine to a 6 speed gear box I guess.
