HI FOLKS,I HAVE JUST FOUND YOUR SIGHT AND HOPE YOU MAY BE ABLE TO HELP. I OWN A 53REG ULYSSEE 2.0 JTD 16V AUTO/TIPTRONIC MANUAL 8 SEATER.I WAS DOING 73MPH ON M25 AND TIMING BELT BROKE,AFTER IT BEING IN A FIAT DEALERS FOR 3 DAYS,THEY ARE ADVISING A COMPLETE ENGINE REBUILD COSTING £5875.IT'S GOT 114,000 ON CLOCK.ALSO NEEDS NEW PATICULATE FILTER AND 4 LTRS. OF THE SPECIAL FLUID.
WHAT DO YOU THINK MY BEST COURSE OF ACTION IS?? AS I THINK THE BOOK ON THIS IS ONLY ABOUT £7000.
fINALLY,THE BELT HAD ONLY DONE 44,000. DO YOU THINK I HAVE GOT ANY RECOURSE TO FIAT AND IF SO HOW DO I GO ABOUT THIS???

If the belt was less than a year old you may have some comeback but other than that I wouldn't hold out much hope.
You could ask them to quote for what actually only needs to be done instead of a complete rebuild. I suspect they are advising while it's all open to do the lot but that will bump the price up. It could be of course that the engine really is knackered seriously. Other option is to try an engine repair specialist rather than Fiat. they may quote less.
