Technical Bushes/arms/axle/shoes/cable/...?

Dear Slobo - Oh! - Sorry - We're UK. Never entered my head you might ask for any reason other than avoiding here! Very sad, I really believed this was such a good move - regret it for the rest of our lives. Can't believe what's happened - but trying to salvage what we can of our lives and try to move away. We used to have lovely neighbours, facilities - this was not a good move! HOWever! - MUST get Multi repaired! - Will feel much better then! By the way, we DID live in UK, just different area! :'(

I'm grateful for all the kind and informative replies I had but cannot cope with replies like that. That is the end of my association with the Fiat Forum then.

Please leave me alone! I understand WHAT you wrote, not WHY you wrote it. It was insulting and completely unnecessary. You aee a comment about not stalking me - obviously it the thought had never entered my head - it seemed a ridiculous thing for you to say. You asked me where I am, I answered you politely and honestly. All I have written of is true - I've just 'told it like it is', the experiences have caused my family much distress and upset. Members of the Fiat Forum have been extremely kind and very helpful and I am very grateful. Your comments, however, have been extremely hurtful and completely unjustified. Please leave me alone.

I did take much offence and I don't drink, excepting tea. I won't be asking for any more Fiat info on here because more is not necessary. I see that my leaving the Forum has a Thumbs Up on another posting so I obviously outstayed the welcome. Thank you to everybody who helped so much though - very much appreciated.

Just want to say.....

I have had a real run of problems since purchasing my first Multipla...its has cost me a small fortune...

However, I was contemplating getting rid and everbody was giving me the usual 'its gonna cost more than its worth'...but then I thought hang on...

I could go buy another seemingly good car...and just to have to start fixing problems from scratch again. At least with the money I have spent and the parts replaced, I know my Multipla is going to be relatively sorted or at least safe to drive and ready to give me good service.

I am driving about confident I have brand new...air filter, glow plugs, fuel filter, top notch oil, new wishbones, new droplinks, new brake pads, new handbrake cable, reconditioned rear callipers, new wiper blades, new battery, new anti roll bar bushes, new rear radius arms, fully checked and balanced brake system, fully checked suspension etc...

I know I still need....New front tyre, rear lens, airbag light switched off, possible wheel bearing and a damn good wash.

But at least I know I have a decently sorted Multipla.

You see...any S/H vehicle is hiding some niggles so if you are happy that you will be keeping the car for a few years and have already thrown good money at it...then if possible just try to stretch to the final hurdle and hopefully you will have a car that you know is safe and should give some good service.

I've actually broken down the cost of buying, fixing etc into daily motoring costs over the next few years and it actually works out at some good dheap motoring.

Thats what I think anyway. But I know...its a nightmare. Sure I've been posting in here myself to get help with gremlins!!!

Dear Multiplani,

Thank you so much for your lovely message. I've been thinking along the same lines as I've spent so much already and 'he' IS useful and lovely to drive. I just cannot find a garage to carry out these trailing arm bush repairs though - as per my previous, the one garage who seem willing increased their estimate by £130.00 in approx. one week. I'm hoping to hear from garage Tuesday.

Thank you, again, for your kind message,

IsThisGoodbyeMrT?

It will cost more to scrap the car and buy another than it will to put right. I would go down the route of sourcing a complete second hand rear subframe complete with trailing arms, shocks, springs and brakes.
Regarding a garage to do the work you must just be having bad luck finding someone as I wouldn't of though it would be a big job to swap the subframe over.
Where abouts in the U.K. are you as someone on here will more than likely know of a decent garage not far from you.
Regarding tyres always consider part worn tyres if money is tight. People will advise against them but how often does a second hand car come with new tyres.
In regards my earlier thumbs up to your post it was regarding the former part rather than the later.
I've just realised my a key has not been working so will have to go over this inserting a's.

If you were to reveal your location, then maybe there is somebody on here who could help with a garage/mechanic/person who could carry out the repairs at a decent price.
Only trying to help you, no need for you to go all 'female'

edit...previous post beat me to it.

Dear Alpitlum,

Thank you very much for your message - my apologies I took the wrong end of the stick re Thumbs - I've tried all local garages, spreading radius out, cannot find 2ndhand frame at mo and desperate for car, but as sub wld be £150.00 approx, plus drop old/fit new £180.00 approx. and no guarantee condition of shoes, cylinder(s), if I had new bushes, shoes, cylinder (bet it's just o/s 'cos that's side that froze) it SHOULD cost around same but I'd know items new and good. Local tyre-fitters told me tyres not overly rubbed - still OK - so shld need only 1 x front, needs little welding bump-stop x 1. H/brake cable was shock but seems quite common to need to do. It's the garages telling me uneconomical repair, but I've already paid to put rest right and what would I end-up with for £330.00 plus scrap fee?! - not a decent replacement car, that's for sure!! It may seem ridiculous to not be able to get car repaired, but this is the situation! - Maybe garages think I'm a secret hoarder ... of some magic money-tree and can somehow afford to scrap vehicles when they get dirty!?! Unfortunately it wasn't me with a winning Euromillions ticket so I still need to stick with what I have. I've never had so much trouble before in my LIFE!! It's like a very UN-funny farce! :(

From what I gather in previous posts, you're in Somerset.

I've just had a quick google for non-franchised Fiat specialist (that's the phrase to use when searching, though you'll probably get what you want just by using 'Fiat specialist Somerset'. The Multipla is a bit quirky, so it's worth trying to find someone with previous experience of them. Recommendations made on a forum (either here or elsewhere) are good only if you can be sure the proponent has no connection with the garage. Call me a cynic....

Anyway, below are a few that I found. I must stress that I've never used any of them, so can't give any guarantees as to their worth. I try to use the maxim 'don't trust anything you're told unless two unconnected sources tell you the same thing'. That being the case, you'll need to find someone else telling you the same thing as I am! :D:

Perfect Service in Newton Abbott come up several times, but they're probably too far from you.

Dear Widemouthfrog,

Thank you so much - you are really kind. I am so sorry I couldn't thank you earlier - no internet signal to my 'phone; back indoors, tried computer, that didn't want to work either! - this is normal for me these days it seems! Fortunately my Techno-son seems to have the golden touch and all working again now! I shall certainly try the links you have so kindly sent - you truly are a WONDERFUL person! This car problem is ridiculous, isn't it?! Problem is, without a car here there is a cumulative effect .. I had intended taking sons away for few days as we're so unhappy here - no car so I couldn't arrange that; homeschooling at mo ( fortunate as no car!) but intended applying for new schools, can't do that 'cos won't be able to get there! My younger son needs school to sit SATS in May! This is a ridiculous situation! I must write a book ... I cannot believe what's happened since we moved here. I don't think ANYwhere's going to he too far the way things are going! - I am now trying to find a garage in an area we'd prefer to live, with a holiday area so I can get car repaired, find new home and new schools and sons have break too! Oh well, I don't generally shy away from a challenge!

Anyway - I must leave you in peace. Thank you SO MUCH, again. I shall try your links now - you are so kind. Thank you,

IsThisGoodbyeMrT?

Dear Widemouthfrog - Thank you again! I looked at your links (and looked up Newton Abbott) and I will 'phone the garage at Somerton tomorrow - Somerton is lovely and the people have always been friendly when we've stopped there before. I'm hoping to hear from Mr Clutch tomorrow - though they are not local, but somewhere we want to visit and I do trust them (if I have to go out of this area - ridiculous really! - I have to try to make it somewhere interesting to keep my sons occupied!). Thank you, again - you are really kind and I really appreciate it. I will try Somerton. I've spoken with Vale Motors before and 'phoned garages from a Googled list last week but no one called me back. The garage I did get a price from, as per previous, increased price hugely! Well - another day tomorrow, and more garages to try from the information you so kindly sent - I cannot thank you enough! VERY best regards, IsThisGoodbyeMrT?

Dear Widemouthfrog - AMAZING, FANTASTIC, WONDERFUL NEWS! Wonderful garage, who had promised to phone me back DID phone me back with the most AMAZING price, I've booked the car in - what a RELIEF!! Thank you SO MUCH for all your help and your concern - I cannot thank you enough. With car repaired I can sort schools, SATs, short break for sons, and move. SUCH a relief! Thank you so much!

IsThisGoodbyeMrT? - not yet!!

Locks, tyres, cables, bushes, brakes &c., &c. Could come to £1k.

Looks like a great deal of money to be spent on a car that's worth little.

I have a car the same engine & year as yours. 175K miles. Owned from new - so I guess that I know what has been done to it.

Personally, as your Multi needs too much at once, I'd be inclined to drive it to the tip & look for another one/something else.

Easy for me to say as I have alternative vehicles to fall back on. Trickier for you I'd guess...
Dear Disgusted,

Just to say a quick 'Thank You' for your reply to my earlier posting - and, I am REALLY HAPPY to say a FANTASTIC garage has telephoned me today, as they promised to, and have quoted me an AMAZING price for the list of problems I gave them! Such a weight lifted from my shoulders! I want to thank all the very kind Members of the Fiat Forum who gave me ideas, thoughts, support and information - wonderful Forum!!

With thanks (and relief!!),
