Hi people. I hope you can help me...

On Saturday there was an "incident" and now my Cinquecento's bumper although still attached to the car, is snapped in half. If I buy a new one off ebay, are they easy to fit yourself or will I have to get the garage man to do it? Also the only bumpers I have seen are plain and will need spraying. How many cans would I need to do this? I have zero car expertise so I'm hoping it's going to be like buying a flat pack thing out of Argos where you can assemble it yourself. :) If welders have to be involved then all shall be lost.

And not relevant to fiats as such, but the other car involved in the "incident" had some minor marks on their bumper. I said I'd pay rather than go through insurance, but roughly how much would it cost for them to repair their marks? They were more scuffs than anything - no dents. I only ask because I don't want them thinking they can rip me off. The other driver seemed very nice but I'm very cynical. :yuck:

Thanks everyone. :)

If they take it to main dealer then you can sell your car to cover £. If they go out of they way to locate a specialist say 100 GBP, Halfords quote a price per mark...

If you are practical and have ramps or stands, dry lockup and time, easy otherwise mission impossible.

Bumpers can be glued or hot gun welded... but it is difficult to get back to as new

Dear 'pot',

who is being cruel now.

Love 'kettle'

For the OP

Replacing the bumper is a matter of six bolts. Two at the top near the bonnet catch, one each side at the point where the bumper joins the wheel arch and two at the bottom into the extensions from the slam panel.

A squirt of Plus gas before you start, if you damage the ones at the bottom, don't panic they are not that neccessary.

You will need two cans of plastic primer, at least three cans of colour and one of laquer.

Preparation and taking your time with paint are important, many fine layers rather than a thick layer.

If you get a curtain, keep spraying it until it falls off the bottom.

Paint it somewhere windless before fitting it.

Arrange for Dentmaster or similar to attend to your victims scuffs on your terms.

Cheers
