Income tax has gone up for higher income.

Well i just heard gordon brown say on the radio "those who have made money over the last few years need to help and contribute" or something along those lines...........

So they work there arse's off, make lots of money and enjoy life. But because they have made money and some bum hasnt they need to give them there money........ is this what hes say or am i hearing it wrong?

absolute ********

:)

what will happen is the big earners will just move abroad which i wouldnt blame them so by the government doing this they could end up being worse situation as the money will just go abroad instead.

I can now happpily say, not just the "bent more well off people" will be tax fiddling from now on....................

It realy isnt going to help the economy. Theres going to be more ways round this than there is choices of penny sweets at the sweet shop. Things are just going to get worse :(

yep! i also found it interesting that they said they will guarentee people under 25 who have been out of a job for a year will be given a job or put on a earning training scheme.

Er how can they guarentee jobs that do not exist

I have been out of work now for only two weeks and the jobs arent out there. When i went to the job centre the woman pulled up one job on the computer which was what i had already applied for

higher earners should pay more tax, as for example a 10% tax on someone on 20k a year is more significant to them than someone on 200k a year. it's just a balancing act of how far you can push without them deciding to move abroad and therefore losing almost all tax.

and before you go on about someone earning 200k a year working a lot harder to get what they want that's often ********, people on lower earnings often work long hours with low pay by neccessity, not getting the oppurtunitys others were blessed with etc. i'm not saying those with higher earnings don't deserve it, it's just it's all too easy to tar those on lower incomes with the brush of being lazy, workshy scum.

Does this include all the bankers and city 'investors' who made fortunes and helped cause the economy to collapse? :chin: Perhaps it's about time they paid some of their huge profits back to help the country they brought to its knees...

As for the "brain drain" (high earners) moving abroad, we've heard it before and it's nothing new. If anything the world has changed drastically over the past few years and countries where high earners used to go to now have extra strict immigration laws that only allow skilled workers in short supply or extra highly skilled/ exceptionally qualified professionals to immigrate. Of course, if you have $500,000 dollars to invest you can get into countries like the USA on an investment visa, but in all honesty how many high income tax band workers have $500,000 to invest right now?

The Tories were telling us in 1997 that the top earners would move abroad if Labour got in, and here we are 12 years later and most of them are still here ;)

You might find that's because, up to now, Uncle Gordon has kept his paws off the rich. There are a few of us on here who will be able to remember Dennis Healey with his ".....squeeze the rich until the pips squeak....." speech. 98% income tax anyone? The Beatles wrote taxman and the Kinks Sunny Afternoon. Those who could afford to get out; Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Peter Sellers, Elton John and the likes all buggered off to the US, Monaco and Switzerland. The rest of us stayed here. Remember, before that "terrible" woman Margaret Thatcher got in, the basic rate of income tax for the man in the street was 35%, not the 23% we now enjoy. Of course, Uncle Gordon has
systematically raised National Insurance contributions until we pay about the same to the Government now as we did in the days of Harold Wilson.

The greedy avaricious ba****ds who ran the banking system into the ground probably won't be able to go abroad unless like Sir Fred they've retired. But for the rest of us we're stuck with it. VAT goes back up to 17.5% later this year doesn't it?

Who's up for for packing up and moving to Italy. I just came back from there, it was beautiful. No lack of Fiat parts either.
