I am(was) the proud owner of a Grande Punto,it has just covered 20,000 miles and will be 3yrs old next july.I went out today and had a knocking noise from the end,on further investigation i found my front suspension spring had snapped......(n) another trip to Fiat.....Anyone else had problems with suspension etc.More to the point what further problems could this have caused to my car:mad:.

I have had to many problems with Punto since purchased from new..think its time to let it go :cry:,lets see if the warranty covers it now.

Many speed humps down your way??

Did you hit any big potholes? If so it might be worth taking a few photos and sending them along with a copy of the repair bill to you local council and claim compensation.

I generally detest the claim culture we are borrowing from the Americans but in the case where roads are not properly maintained I make an exception...

would have expected it to bugger the wheel rim though if it was that hard.

Be lucky to get anything out of the council in compensation!!

Were the dampers still ok? A bump enough to screw the spring would probably blow the shocks aswell.

Maybe a faulty spring? Small fracture caused by contamination of the steel during manufacture?

You would be hard pushed to get compo from the council.

A few years back my mate hit a brick in the road with his vectra and it resulted in damaged sump, damaged oil pick-up in sump resulting in a lot of work being done to his car. He had to claim off his insurance first and then get them to claim off council... nightmare, i asked him about 12 months after he had done it, still not heard nothing even though the council admitted liability with the brick being on their road!! This was about 2 or more years ago now and forgot about it till now lol!!!

Maybe Fiat thought we'd forgotten about the Stilos springs & reckoned they could sneak a few onto the Grande Punto. Time to get some spring catchers on the GP aswell?

my friend, in general the gps springs and suspension system just gries out for replacement. all weird noises come from the suspension. i believe that all after market solutions are way better than the stock one

Not a squeek from mine.

Cups...on the top or bottom of the strut?

They go under the bottom of the spring to stop a broken end going mercilessly through the tyre.... on a Stilo. Maybe our GP's will suffer a similar fate.
