car got broken in to last night, screwdrivered the lock and ripped cd player out. got have new door skin and a set of all new locks apparently. Fiat said all the keys and locks will be £280 then they got be reprogrammed not sure how much that is. So got do it on insurance but do you think with the replacement locks and the door skin the car will be written off. Its a 1996 N Fiat Punto 55s.

its drivers side door, its jst around the lock thats been damaged.
I should have the option to buy it back from insurance, so hopefully if i can il get it done myself. Where do i get a second hand lock with a key?

Sorry to hear that mate. That's how they did the passenger door lock on my Punto too. Seems that type of lock is s***e :( I'm considering fitting deadlocks once my car's back on the road.

Did the same to my rover 100 last year, only they caught that theiving C*nt, he's locked up now for that and several other things, but the car still got written off, and you get no option to buy it back, and you loose you no claims :-(

Why don't you get an option to buy it back. I spoke to insurance this morning and if it is written off i have to negotiate with the engineer to buy it back. You should be able to buy it back. and i also on my dads insurance so we got protected no claims. so dont lose them.

All of the locks that are just a lock cylinder on the door (ie not part of the handle) are really easy to break into....some rotten wa*ker broke into my dads car(daewoo nexia) a couple of months back and nicked his stereo (only worth around a tenner) so he put the lock back in....last saturday he woke up to find that some (probably the same) wa*ker had popped the lock again, but this time tried to steal the car.....he found it down the street with the steering lock engaged, large scrape down the side (where they tried to manuvre out of the drive) with the steering column plastic bit ripped out and all the wires dangling!!!.....
.......Dozy ****s dont realize that most recent cars have an immobiliser in the key and to get it to start you prolly got to get into the engine bay!!!

the forensics didnt come "because it was raining"

the insurance are probably gonna write his car off too..hes not bothered he thinks its jinxed....hes now borrowing my missus' mini cos the insurance won't pay up for a courtesy car "because it wasnt actually stolen" and "it runs" (me and my ol' man ar'nt too bad with electrics)

i think im gonna add remote central locking, then take the barrels out, and fill the hole with a 2mm stinless plate welded on...bodyfill the bit up so it looks nice and smooth then spray it!!

or will i need to leave the barrels in for the central locking?
