I had a Remap done on friday dinner time, i drove it last night for around 15 - 20 miles and now all i have is white smoke coming from my exhaust and i wont go above 3000 rpm. the EML light is on also. the AA recovered me and told me it was my turbo ?? has any1 had any experiences like this literally just after a remap ?? any help is appreicated

Angel tuning

mjet

yeah spoke to fiat today and they said get it recovered here and well look at it on monday. ill just be propa gutted if its the turbo and they find out it is mapped :(

i afraid i think if it has white smoke comin out of it they will look into the ecu just to see if had been mapped. i hope they dont though.

me neither mate. angel tuning said it is untracable but i dont no. the AA man put it on his computer and found nothing either, no stored faults other than the turbo not working properlly. you wud ave thought the AA man would b able to see if it had a remap done tho.

threads like this worry me a great deal

what reg is it mate?

Matty relax, some cars have turbo failure re-mapped or not... its just the way it is, even BMW 320d's had a severe spat of them failing, dont live your life in fear of your turbo going, it will one day anyway! They dont last for ever you know... main thing is oil quality, regular servicing, and making sure you let the turbo "warm down" before turning off the engine.

58,000 miles on mine now and still absolutely fine....(y)

I try to let turbo warm down but it isn't practical all the time, how long should we be leaving it and would it be the same for petrol + diesels?

I try to stay off boost on the last few minutes of arriving at my destination but is that enough?

To OP: That's really unfortunate mate, not the first Angel tuned turbo I heard destroyed but also could just be a dodgy turbo like FFoxy says.

Still it's the reason why I haven't mapped mine :(
(and insurance lol)

Can you flash ECU or am I being naughty?

its probably a coincidence, the turbo was on its way out anyway,DO NOT mention you have had it remapped and they will just replace the turbo,if you mention it you pay,its that simple,i hope this helps, john

Probably part of the faulty batch and mapping it has just sped up it going. They need to send the ECU off to see if it has been mapped, normally they would be able to tell through driving it but obviously they wont be able to do that.

To let the turbo cool down, drive it off boost for the last mile of your drive and/or let it idle for 30 seconds when you park up.

Thank u all for your help. Fiat should hopefully get it looked at today and then ill no were i stand. i havent mensioned to fiat that it is remapped n i dont plan on doing because i dont fancy i big bill. spoke to angel tuning today and they said they coudnt blow up a turbo that quick if they tryed tbh they seem genuine enough so. i thing the turbo was on its was out anyway so the remap has just helped it along. abit gutted really i really wanted to give it some death over the weekend but couldnt :( i will b taking it steady from now on tho i cant be done without my gp its breaking me.

Am more than happy to pay up mate i cant say i havent got the money 2 cover it id jus rather spend it on other things 4 my car ;)

Sorry about your turbo packing in, mine was replaced to. I cant help but feel though if your going to 'give it some death' and then something fails as a result and you go running back to Fiat due to the stress the vehicle has been under, which it was not designed for, that technically you should expect to pay for something. This is why Fiat probably gets stuck in a rut, because it is paying out for so many warranty repairs that it has not got the cash to use or design stronger parts for new models!

i can see were u are coming from but i was like a kid in a toy shop once i had got it remapped it was the best toy in there and it just wanted to be played with so who can blame me. as i said once it is all sorted i wil b taking it steady from then on as i dont want to keep breakin things on it. this is the 1st bit of trouble i have had with any car so i dont plan on it happening agen!!

I like your honesty mate, there's been a few kids on here that have tried to say that they never boot it and then get upset when you suggest that they may of broke it yet you have openly come out and admitted you have hammered it on occasion! However to be fair there does seem to be a problem with certain batches of the turbos so chances are it was faulty to begin ;)!
