Bravo Turbo

Re: Re: bravo turbo

Why cant it be done Tom? I have heard about a 1.6 Brava here running with turbo...

Re: Re: Re: bravo turbo

Novitec have the time and money to develop a system for the 1.8. Everything would have to be custom on the 1.6 and its entirely at your risk as to how much boost you give it.

A coupe engine would be cheaper, more powerful and more reliable.

re

I've never seen a turbo kit for a 1.6, novitech do one for a 1.8

and there's been pictures of hgt's with turbos on.

and there's engine swaps, fiat coupe lumps put in. . 16v and 20v conversions. .

Re: re

so i take it theirs 1 4 1.8 hlx!!!! and how much roughly all this will cost?????

Re: re

Tom, does the Coupe engine have to go in complete with its gearbox, or could one retain the original 1.6 gearbox?
Besides, we dont know if there needs to be any front structural changes to fit the coupe engine into the 1.6 engine bay. If so, than i suppose the expenses could be sky high. And if the structural changes arent done properly you will probably end up with a front end that looks like a horse with a really fat rider on it.

Re: Re: re

I don't think the gearbox fits. Don't you need some bits from a tipo?

Now RobD and myself have some plans for a 1.6. But mine will wait until after ICE upgrade and the mini.

You have to use a gearbox and clutch from a 2.0 tipo, as the coupe one doesn't fit

re

the front end does sit lower with the 16v turbo lump in, but not drasticaly low. . . just like lowering your car 40/50mm with out changing springs! lol

i got some HGT springs i'm gonna put on, hopefuly they'll match the weight of the new engine better!

but the handling is great with the dampers i've got set as hard as they'll go and the weight at the front!

and does look wel mean how low it is!!!

Re: Re: bravo turbo

Just because Novitec doesnt make it doesnt mean it cant be done... The Novitec ones are not so powerful either, bringing the 1.8 up to only 168 HP... A local company is to build me one in a couple months for my 1.8 for around 225+ HP (with new pistons...)

Re: Re: Re: bravo turbo

Yeah but the novitec one requires no mods. If you are prepared to do the engine internal mods then you can get some good power.

Re: Re: Re: bravo turbo

50bhp is a good increase from a turbo upgrade on a relatively small engine

higher boost would give you more power. Perhaps Novitec give an sceptical result using lower boost rather than a stupidly larger BHP as many turbo upgrades do/claim?

I'd don't know what turbo's Novitec use nor how much boost they would run or how much they lower the engines compression ratio of the engines so I can't really comment on the Novitec turbo upgrade

Re: Re: Re: Re: bravo turbo

I don't think they lower it at all.

Anyone for a set of forged Mahle pistons for the 1.6? :)

Re: Re: Re: Re: bravo turbo

Just read what you put above tom. Doh!

A 50bhp upgrade on the standard engine is quite alot to say the least! At a guess they will be running the turbos at over half a bar. Still there would be plenty of scope for power increase after that. Although the money side of it would get a little stupid lol

from the info I've gathered so far the max amount of boost that I should run on my 1.6 with standard compression ratios is 6 lbs.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: bravo turbo

An extra 50bhp is all the 1.6 block can take with out needing any internal mods.

Anything more than that and you are looking for trouble.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: bravo turbo

You get new pistons, now your rods are the weak point, then crank, then bearing caps, then head bolts.... the list gets long!

Any luck on the clutch?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: bravo turbo

I've still not found one yet Tom:(
I'm sure there will be one available some where.

I've started ordering parts for my engine conversion though. More speaker, oh and finaly got round to sending my brembos off for powder coating:) so I have plenty of excuses for not finding an uprated clutch hehe. I Also phoned Rotrex upto price up a recon and if I part X my new bit of kit for another £400 they will give me a brand new one which can run more boost and is a much better peice of kit all round. (its the SP30/ 74) I think that would be a better option really

On the subject of the Novitect turbo. Its basicaly just a bolt on turbo isn't it! for 3 I would have expected a little more work really.
