Technical bravo HGT eratic running

I have a bravo hgt 5 cylinder 20 valve which has developed a strange problem, the engine does'nt always take the throttle. it starts popping and banging and the only way it will clear is if you floor the throttle. The problem seems to be from idle to about 3000rpm, them it clears out! When connected to the diagnostics computer, nothing showed up,,,,,has anyone got any suggestions???

Had sim probs with my Marea 155 20V, nothing showed on diagnostic, turned out to be air flow meter. Cost about £100 for replacement unit from fiat.
