I did my own 1.4 brava cambelt/tensioner change.
Not sure what the diff is with 1.6.
I made my own cam/crank locking devices.
If the 1.6 is a twin cam, bodging some locking devices is, i think, easier, and probably safer.
It wasnt particularly difficult job. A bit time consuming and obviously a bit risky.
I didnt save much money, breaking a spark lead didnt help there much.
Just had the satisfaction of doing it myself.
