I have replaced my HGT brakes once again today as I started getting a metal to metal sound again. The pads themselves werent too bad though once I got them out and had at least 3mm on them. Sound has gone away though!

The car has done 17,000 and is now on the third set of front pads, is this normal on a HGT. I know I drive on the limit 100% but I have never suffered wear like this and have bought a set to carry around with me, especially as one pad completely desintergrated onme a while ago!

Am I the only one to suffer on a HGT like this? My sx has done 28 and I only changed the pads on it at 26!

brakes on HGT

I have just replaced rear discs and pads on my HGT for tje fourth time!! - car has done 51000 miles. To be fair, the Fiat dealer didn't charge me last time. They agreed that 11 months wasn't very long for a set of discs and pads!! There is a problem here I think.

pads.

mybe time to take a look at the material of the pad's and try another type? (just a thought). I used to use ferrodo pad's on mine but recently changed to a company near me i cant quite remember the name of. I'll try to get the number for you all.

17000 Miles - you do drive hard!

I too have a 97 HGT, I changed the standard front discs and pads at 50,000 miles, ( i've had he car from day one) they were on the limit though. as for the rears they'll last another 10-15k, the cars on 58k now. I can assure the car is driven to it's capability, but there is engine braking as well.
I have red.dot discs and pads on there now. I can't believe you had to change the rears!!

As for 17k on a set of discs and pads, surely that has to be a fault with the product?

Info on Brakes

Hi,

I read your post about changing the front pads so often on you HGT, and I was wondering if I could ask some advice.

I am assuming that the front calipers on the HGT are the same as the Marea HLX as a lot seems common, and mine too need changing - but I cannot figure out how to get the caliper off to change the pads - it doesn't seem as simple as the rear ones which I did a couple of weeks ago.

Any help - greaty appreciated.

Garry
