Technical Boot Remote Release not working.

Hi.
I've just bought a 2001, 1 owner from new, Seicento Sporting.....and the internal release for the boot doesn't seem to work (in addition to the boot not opening on the C/l.....but I'm not fussed about that)
The cable pulls, I've looked at the latch (car end) and can see the cable pulling a piece of metal (that I assume should operate the lock on the boot) but there seems to be no interaction between the metal the cable is pulling and the latch on the boot.
It looks like something might have snapped off the metal (on the cable).....I've searched for replacement parts but can't find anyone selling any.....
Can someone advise if there is a part available.....or I just have to live with opening the boot by the key.......(Oh, the horror!)

But there's a steel finger that tends to break off. Plenty of OK ones in the scrappies.

Sorry for delay in replying.
You're right (of course....)....there should have been a finger sticking out to catch the boot latch.
I've replaced it now with one from a scrapped car....
