Technical Boot exterior door handle

I've just had the second failure of the electric boot handle. The first was covered by warranty so I have repaired it this time. A case of a too complicated design. The plastic flap that contacts the micro switch lost a pivot. I cut off the other pivot and glued it to the inside of the rubber that your fingers press. The plastic flat is now a spacer so nothing can break now.

Well done. I get fed up of modern designs, e.g. using a soft plastic pin as a pivot. Designed to fail, to keep the parts department going.

I remember the days when a boot handle was mechanical. I'd guess they changed to electric switches so it can be watertight, but I never had a problem in the past. Perhaps it's more about styling.

Mine's gone twice as well, once under warranty and once outwith warranty but afer a service.

Dealer reckoned it was nothing to do with them but would have a look at it (not fix it - just look at it) for £75.

Nice business if you can get it.

Mine was fixed by a software update - yes, really.

Might be worth shoving your dealer to check on this. It was the second dealer we went to that knew about it - the first (Perrys Portsmouth) didn't have a clue.

The previous owner had replaced the boot lock under warranty.

Ours previously was unreliable, often failed to open. Now has been working perfectly for a few months.
