Blu's Suzuki Ignis Sport

Introduction

So been toying with getting one for a while but today i actually bit the bullet and bought one...

2004 Suzuki Ignis Sport - Its just clocked past 44k miles so not bad mileage for a 10 year old car. For them that don't know it is a 1.5vvti engine - seems a very good engine, pulls from very low down but also very revvy. It weighs in at under a tonne. Fantastic handling little thing too, really holds on through the corners, i'm impressed! Its pretty much a japanese panda 100hp except a little lighter and a litter faster out of the box. Still feels like a small car even after driving a cinq daily although i do feel like i'm sat REALLY high up!

Not much done to it, just has a SuzukiSport grill, which are supposedly pretty rare and desirable amongst suzuki people - certainly improves the look of the car no end (AC rad has been painted black so its not as noticeable through the grill too).

And it has some aftermarket alloys, not sure on the brand i didn't check with decent tyres (Toyo T1-Rs) - but i got the oem wheels with good tyres too - might keep them as winter wheels.

Oh and square plates are not standard either.

Anyhow, some pics......

The mk1 CRX is the lads new car, he bought it yesterday to replace the Iggy. Only 6 of them mk1 CRX in the UK according to howmanyleft, was a very cool car indeed. nearly all fibreglass and only weighs a bit more than a cinquecento except it has almost triple the power lol.

All in all I am most pleased - it is like a fiat though and the red is a bit flat - i shall machine polish it soon and hopefully it will come up really nice.

Massive thank you to Simon a.k.a buttflap212 for the lift and good to see you again fella ;)

Comments welcome.
So there is quite a few goodies due to arrive over the coming months. But finally fitted coilovers this weekend.

I really could do with lower profile tyres (ordered, should come this week). I need to fiddle with it some more, add some more pre-tension to springs to firm it up a touch then reset the height again. One front wheels has more camber than the other so need to try work why - maybe top mount as its only 2 bolts and you can put it in the opposite way. I'll look into it anyway. Then after that it needs an alignment badly with it being so much lower.

I dont think i posted this yet.

Not got a boss for it yet but will get one ordered soon.

What else..? Oh yeah, have put a deposit down in a group buy for some super-pro poly bushings. All chassis ones, so front and rear arms & anti-roll bar bushings and also ordered steering rack bushing and gear cable linkage bushes from same guy. Not sure on lead time for that but they come when they come.

Theres plans for an exhaust but thats a way off (unless the stock one which doesnt look too great fails). Also talking to lad who made my adjustable panhard about a short shifter, he already makes them but we are talking about one that will move the knob a bit nearer the steering wheel. So need to get the omp one in and take measurements first.

And lastly ive decided to get car painted but cannot decide one colour, again this is a way off as its not really important.

Think thats it for now.

So what goes on with the Igmeister I hear you ask... albeit quietly, some might say silently...

Well it now has an exhaust, just a back box for now, but its a very nice genuine suzukisport stainless one. Its not at all noisy but sounds much better than stock and look much better too.

here it is before fitting - It hangs under the rear axle unlike the oem one so you can only fit it with shorter rear shocks, but as the rears are adjustable length and set to shortest they can go thats not a problem. And it even came with poly bushings

The lad i got it off, top chap, he helped me fit it on his drive while i was there so here it is on.

I also been buying brake stuff, need to find some time to fit it all but I have gold coated grooved discs
20170412_115032.jpg

and a set of HEL braided lines with red coating
20170408_104530.jpg

No pics but also enough brake fluid to do a full fluid change, paint for the calipers and greenstuff brake pads, never tried greenstuff but should be better than what i had but not so race-y they only work when hot hot, which seems to be the only other option available for car.

Weekend just gone I went to an Iggy Sport meet up in Coventry..
club.jpg
Our little club is now officially recognised by Suzuki and they sent a new Ignis to the meet for us all to have a go in, nice little car but I don't think I'll be trading in the Sport anytime soon for one. Apparently next year they are releasing a Sport version though they will not tell us yet when engine it will have.

While at said meet I may have got a bit carried away and bought some stuff.. I got these 2 Cusco lower front braces.

I'll just hang onto them for when the poly bushings arrive and do it all at the same time.

I also grabbed a pair of rear control arms - this is from the lad I got the exhaust from, freebies (y) So I can get the bushes out and get the stripped, cleaned and painted ready for the poly bushings.

Also i bought and fitted a short shifter, no pics as no point really, looks exactly same as before but has super short throws now :D

And of course, there is more stickers than there was last time i posted pics of the car lol - again no pics as they are still on my phone atm and i'm on computer right now.

Think thats it for now

So feel this is due an update....

Got the bushes out the spare rear arms.

20170604_184046.jpeg

Used a 12ton press and they still put up a fight [emoji50]. So they need cleaning up and painting next, still no poly bushes yet but they are in the waiting list at super pro so hopefully not too much longer.

I did another buy...
20170619_104701.jpeg
Cusco upper brace to match the lowers, they do 2 types and this is the one with the brake master cylinder bracing.
Gave it a quick clean and polish.

20170619_162911.jpeg

And fitted
20170619_171530.jpeg
Has actually made a noticeable difference, cannot wait to get the lowers fitted too!

Erm what else....
Oh I got a oil cap off a mate who sold his iggy. The only one ive ever seen that sits all lined up when tightened down.
Original at top, new at bottom.
IMG_20170704_100338_770.jpeg

And of course, I have many new stickers since last post. One day I might post pics of them all, God knows where I'm gonna put them all but I have 2 I'm quite excited to put on and know exactly where they will go. Sadly you'll have to wait as my boiler has been broken for a while and I plain refuse to try wash car with cold water [emoji23]

i'm sick and tired of that - how do you think i have been washing myself for the last week exactly....? boiler man is due today at some point so soon i will wash the cars... well after your wedding this weekend and johns wedding next week I should finally have some free weekends! Might even work on the panda!!

Well been a while.. what have I actually done... Not much tbh.

I actually took stickers off, shock horror. There is only stickers on the back now, taken them all off the sides.

20171101_143437.jpeg

And new steering wheel fitted along with a resistor so I don't get airbag warning light. I also got a new gearknob. And I decided I wanted the gearknob nearer the wheel.. I tried a screw on extender but the throw was then longer than stock and having spent so much on a short shifter I couldn't live with that.. so in end I've taken the centre console out and raising the entire shifter 70mm
20171101_143347.jpeg
20171101_143406.jpeg
20171101_143355.jpeg

I might make a new carpet for it so there isn't a big hole under the shifter but I am happy with it for now.

Still not fitted the new brakes so that's probably next.

So as I said brakes next..
20171109_102435.jpeg
20171114_120739.jpeg

It's mostly done but the rear brake lines are properly seized so gonna need to cut them and stick new unions on and reflare. Access is terrible but hopefully it'll be ok and I don't end up needing to replace the whole solid line.

But all brakes removed. Calipers thoroughly cleaned and painted gold, regreased etc etc. New discs and pads all round. Front flexis changed to braided Hel lines, just the rears to do and bleed it up.

I only have one pic of a rear brake atm
20171110_164652.jpeg

Hopefully have that wrapped up this weekend weather permitting.

In other news this massive parcel arrived today...
20171117_102347.jpeg

Whatever could that be...?

20171117_104948.jpeg

Can you tell what it is yet.?

...?

Ok I'll stop teasing, new wheels [emoji2]

Japan Racing JR6 15x8j et25. I have 4 new tyres ready to go on. Just waiting on some new tyre valves and wheel nuts now before they can go on.

Nice house ?

Well the brakes are all sorted. On and bled until all the old fluid was gone..

The new valves arrived
IMG_20171118_130649_239.jpeg

Still no wheel nuts yet, hopefully turn up 2moro.

Test fit the wheels, I think they suit it very well.

Don't think I will have time to get the tyres fitted 2moro but sometime next week they'll get fitted.

Tyres mounted... Will clean them off and seal them 2moro and get them on.
20171125_110612.jpeg

They are real close to calipers these so hoping I have no issues with catching wheel weights, shall see 2moro though lol.

Got about 80 miles on the new brakes now, they are starting to feel good now, yet to actually stamp on them yet but feel very firm and grabby compared to before, in a good way.

Booked in for MOT next Friday, always stressful but I'm not worried. Should be fine.

Well all sealed and on the car..

Very happy with how it sits in them. I did however discover the old wheels are et15 and not 20 which I thought. So that's why they poked so bad lol. But also means that I think I could have got away with 205 rather than 195 tyres but hey ho. I'll try them after these tyres..

Same size as old wheels... 15x8j but 10mm more offset, 25 rather than 15. Same size tyres too - they just not hanging out the arches like the borbets did lol. They do look smaller than the old wheels just due to the design on them too.

I toyed with 16s, it used to have 16s on it couple of years back.. but like little wheels and they drive better. These are so much lighter than the borbets too - i should have weighed on before i stuck it on.
