Hi, after finally getting the Blue&Me MAP device working on 2010 car with 68R dash mount and a lot of help from 'Hacky' who I mentioned in the original post sorted it, we decided it was not really that good on the graphics for the satnav and a bit basic on searching locations.
So we (well the daughter) decided we should upgrade to the later TomTom 2 which has much more features and better graphics. Not badly priced second hand as needs a different cradle for the dash but still came in under £150........'OH NO' said the Fiat dealer it is not possible, ''your car has been programmed for the B&M MAP and will not recognise the B&M TomTom for pairing so you will only have a basic satnav. It will cost several hundred pounds to get the car reprogrammed even if it is possible we were told.
So over to 'Hacky' for some help........Hacky is my work partner busting online scammers.
He started off by getting into the official Blue&Me web site that covers both MAP and TomTom. By getting into all the programmes found out what makes each one recognise both the type of device and the type of car so the TomTom displays the car on startup and replaces the ..''find blue&me logo''.
After rewriting the program this was then fed back into the car through the USB and after pairing we now have a fully functional TomTom 2 replacing the Magneti Marelli MAP......
Everything else works fine as no rewriting of the cars software involved just making the car recognise we had fitted a TomTom 2 and not Magneti Marelli MAP. The TomTom is also a little more streamlined with a larger screen but smaller exterior.
It is hard to believe these dealers can't provide this service.
End result daughter is very happy and it displays so many features even allowing the ipod music to be switched on with voice commands.
The program coding is common for the TomTom but is specific on the line command for the vehicle model and there were lots of Fiat/Alfa/Lancia vehicles to choose from even the Abarth has its own coding so the TomTom displays the vehicle on the screen.
