Any ideas on the best way to do this?

as the car im buying is already pre-spec'd in the dealership, it doesnt have blue & me built in, can this get added if not in factory spec?

if not, how else can i get a usb/aux input for my ipod through the stereo?

Cheers.

You could get a wireless transmitter for your ipod, it tunes into a radio channel
Have fun with your 500!

I recommmend the Fiat ipod interface unit - it's on the configurator. You order it from dealer and can fit it yourself - which takes around 1 hour. It plugs into the back of the radio head unit and the ipod lives in the hidden pocket behind the dash. The ipod is then completely taken over by the head unit control to change tracks, so you have to be careful with how you make playlists. If you do get it I can tell you a few hints on how to fit it - cos the instructions are confusing.

Cheers, thats exactly what i want!

does that meen that its not easy to get the ipod back out again?
got a spare ipod so ill talk to my dealer about that when i go to pick the car up.

Sorry - bad description from me,its easy to get the ipod in and out, once you know where the pocket is. standard ipod connector.
Fiat part no is 50901536, costing £81.56

Can you tell me what connections this uses on the back of the head unit. I presume it would be the Blue mini iso.

Hi guys, Sorry to butt in, but i've heard the blue and me is a pain with the standard ipod format, so would it be better to use the above mentioned interface. The reason for asking is i've ordered a 500 bydiesel, so it comes with blue and me as standard. Or Can both the blue and me and the interface be connected at the same time?

So many people have had problems with the ipod and the 500, but i just plugged it in an it worked

Is this the same part you need to use if your car has Blue&Me fitted? I have been told that my ipod won't play because the files are not compatible. The gadget I have been told to purchase is a little box thing which you plug the ipod into and then you plug the whole lot into that USB port down near the coffee holder. This gadget is also about £80 which I why I am querying this.

Thanks.

No it's different, the part that you've got on order didn't exist when that person posted. Why people revive old threads is beyond me because all it does is confuse people.......

Because they get shouted at to use the search if they make a new one ;) :p
I think it's reasonable to yell at people to use the search function if it's something which is discussed every week but for something like this until someone does a guide I think it's perfectly alright to post a new thread :p

Crikey, so many forum rules around here to observe - presumably why so many forum virgins start of with "my first post, please be gentle..."

On topic. The whole incorrect iPod song format has long since bugged me, I'm hoping that the little white box thingy sorts this, any one tried it out yet? although not in stock last time I looked.

I have just gone out to the car armed with my ipod nano and connecting lead and plugged it into the usb port and it seems to work. I was pretty surprised as didn't imagine it would without the expensive gadget:) It even seems to not mind playing tracks I have purchased from itunes. Is this a fluke? Am I going to encounter problems later? Am I really going to be able to avoid spending £80 quid on the gadget??? That would be a bonus:D

I now just have to make the Blue&Me lady understand what I am saying. Sometimes she gets a person's name straight off but there are others she just doesn't like. She doesn't understand the word 'no' either despite me shouting at her (typical woman). I have one friend who is getting sick of calls from me because the Blue&Me lady keeps on insisting that she is my husband:eek:

It's not like you'll get an infringement from a moderator or anything :)

If someone is a newbie no one is going to call them an effing idiot or anything for not searching but people will gently guide them towards the appropriate way of doing things :)

Here is a video which every person posting on a forum should se whether it be for the first time or the thousandth time.

Also if the search seems intimidating and confusing then try this link below. Basically it will search only the 500 section of this forum. Simply type in what you're searching for in perhaps 3 words or so and I'm sure you'll find it :)
