Hi
As above.Do you have a prefered oil that you use or recommend other than the handbook says?

It'll be going in a Brava 1.6 16v next weekend when I intend to do an oil change.
Cheers
Peter

Why differ from what the handbook says? If thats what the test and develop the engines with why not carry on using it!

Selenia currently sat downstairs for my service on Sunday (If I can fit the car through the church doors)

Cheers
I was wondering that too,but considering my car was built in 96 I assume the handbook that came with it was printed around that same time.
I was wondering if there have been any advances in oils since then which have become the 'preferred' type these days?

Peter

Well selenia oil is in my hgt, as their scientist boffins make changes to the advanced oil as the years go by and thats good enough for me.

Admittedly not heard of Selenia oil. What makes it so special and is it easily available..?

Its made for Fiat for all fiats and you can get it from your local fiat garage

Selenia 20k has been used by Alfa/Lancia/Fiat for years. All the engine testing will have been done with 20k.

Can be expensive. My fiat dealer stung me £27 for 5 litres

theres a guy on the punto forum who uses selenia 10w 60
what i can't work out is, why?
the explanation he gave was that selenia 20k is mean't for high mileage users, but if you're prepared to change the oil more often, the 10w 60 is better.

what do you think tom? :)

He is a punto driver therefore a ******** ;)

He is talking shite. Why else would it be recomended by a) the maker of the car and b) pretty much anyone who tunes alfa/lancia/fiat cars?

The grade of oil does not determine how often it needs changing, the usage of the car and the miles you drive determine that. You won't need to change 10W60 (which is FAR to thick for our engines, bye bye big ends!) more often than a 10W40 unless he is using a non-synth oil... in which case he is a moron.

Ditto he obviously knows nothing about oil or engines just bullsh--.

that reply was what i was expecting LOL :)

its funny really when you consider that fiat put many 1000's of man hours into designing an engine, and then some chav decides on the spur of the moment that fiat are using the wrong oil.

and he actually advises people use that oil, and they listen. Grrr!
he seems to have established himself as an HGT guru LOL :)

Be thankful you don't have the 5cly engine in the punto, thick oil would probably be death for it.

Its the same with people who use 0W5 as the bottle claims better BHP.

i dont use it and never will!
after the cock up our local mechanic made by putting 5w30 synthetic in my car. i think you commented when i said something like the car made a mechanical roar when you put your foot down :)

0w5? that must be a bit like wd40 lol :)

I think WD40 would be thicker ;)

Demon tweeks and such kev places sell 0W5 as performance oil. Usually the idiots that use it are putting it into chav'd up shitheaps that are either running seriously lean or rich due to 'induction' kits and farty exhausts or mod 'chips' and will die of other causes long before the oil destroys the bearings.

Selenia vs. magnatec

In antisipation of my up coming service on my Bravo 2.0, I bought some Magnatec whilst it was on offer and a mate could get me staff discount. Magnatec may have its oponents (Tom) and this thread did have me questioning whether or not I should stick with selenia in future, but at the end of the day, so long as you use 10W/40, no real harms gunna be done is it.

Meanwhile, happened this morning to find my last service bill for my BRAVA 1.6. Much to my surprise, FIAT Picadilly (Ripon)used Castrol Magnatec 10W/40!

Re: Selenia vs. magnatec

Magnatec leaves a plastic coating on all the internals, personally i don't have enough knowledge of engines or oils to comment on whether this is a good or bad thing, so just stick with Selenia...
