How's this for a spare part quote.....

I rang my dealer for a price on a new fuel injector for my 1999 1.6sx 100 Fiat Marea. (Part 71718998)

That will be 373 quid please. (Yes, each).

Wow

Last year citroen quoted my £480 for a wiper motor!! just the part supplied for that price.

In 2014 the Fiat price was: 223.52 GBP inc VAT

Fiat and other manufacturers have never really cared about older cars and parts supply.

Within about 3 months after we bought our 130TC in Jan.88 NEW the front track control arms were no longer available from Fiat. So much for a so called 10 year parts supply guarantee etc.

Also in the UK Fiat sold off stock of the 130TC's engine stabiliser bars to a well know UK specialist. The two bars then from Fiat cost £17 inc VAT and £24 inc VAT. New price from specialist. £99 + VAT. RIP OFF Britain comes to mind. I refused to buy and paid in total £400 to have 10 sets of replacement end bushes and sold them for £43 (no VAT) so making £30 for petrol, phone, etc. and pint for my troubles.

Everyone is jumping on the 'inflation' band wagon, just a rip off.
Not on the same scale but my local hardware store could sell me a lovely little bottle of carb cleaner for £1.20 a couple of months ago, been priced at that for at least two years, bought some yesterday and the same can was £2.40, the explanation (complete with shrugged shoulders) was " inflation innit."

re: inflation innit

Many years ago, a friend of mine emigrated to New Zealand because the price of corned beef went up in his corner shop
and he was fed up of "government lies".
A little extreme I thought, he cam back a few years later.

Bizarrely I gave up on the idea of emigrating to New Zealand for similarly silly reasons - spent two weeks over there near Auckland to get a feel for the place and though the climate was lovely, people friendly and scenery gorgeous, the jobsworth petty officials like traffic wardens, swimming bath attendants and such like drove me spare, so I decided staying in the UK and putting up with the grey weather was a better idea than spending half the day swearing under my breath at them :D

I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere

Wow, 373 quid each? Why don't you buy four mereas with the 373 quid instead then you have 16 injectors to choose from, at least one will be serviceable, then with the 200 quid you have left after buying the cars buy 200 lotto tickets.

>buy four mareas

According to my research there's only 3 others left of this exact 1.6 model (grandad had silver so it's got to be that), one black manual , one red auto and one silver manual in a bad way. The red auto looked reasonable.
I even bought a 1.2 brava for my boy whilst hunting the marea because "it had the same face".
I even considered importing a LHD from Germany....

Wow, that's even more money left to spend on lotto tickets then being as you can only buy a possible three

Currently I believe that fiat are selling their own branded cheap plastic phone holder for over £80 when it was £50 before covid, and probably only £20 when it first came out

If you want to get outraged about prices try owning and finding parts for a classic range rover

Fiat have gone very expensive. I compare prices for Ducato engines with Iveco. Iveco always cheaper and very often the same part number. Just got a turbo for £450 from Iveco and the exact same part number from Fiat £1350.00

Same here. I’m a Fiat Professional dealer and I’m struggling to remain competitive. I also compare with Iveco. Quote the Bosch number from the injector and they will list a recon for around £131.00 each.
