I changed my clutch cable yesterday, and after it started up and ran fine.

However, just about to venture of to college this morning I got about to miles from home, the engine started to sound really rough due to some rattling come from the back of the air box and the battery light came on and stayed on.

Also the engine smelt a bit like burning and the cooling fan switched on, whilst driving, which has never happened when ive been moving, just when stuck in slow moving traffic.

Any help or guidance will be deeply appreiciated!

Cheers

if you have a multimeter check the volts of your batery with the engine running you should have 13.8-14 volts if the voltage is higher or lower you have a failed alternator or a voltage stabilizer.

The current across the battery is about 9 to 10 volts.

The alternator belt is still there and the rough sound is from the alternator, took the belt of and started it up, no sound.

How much am i looking at paying for a new alternator?

Cheers
