posted on the mk 3 site by mistake, battery light on losing power steering intermittently, new battery a month ago. advice appreciated

Without looking, sounds like a loose belt - connected to engine, alternator & power steering pump (my old VW T4 was connected like this).

Its electric power steering but you could be correct re slipping belt (less likely with modern serpentine and tensioner) but you could be correct in that the alternator is not charging or not up to scratch. Checking the voltage across the battery may help (look for region of 14V) but modern voltage regulators can mess with this technique.

thanks do the later pandas have problems with the earth straps like the previous model?

The light used to and usually points to a problem with the alternator. Generally earth straps aren't so much a problem for the alternator charging the battery as it's done at a lower level over a longer period of time (not like starting). If it starts strong then it wont be the earthing.

Get a multimeter and check the voltage with engine off, running, and revving at 2k+

battery not being charged at all so must be alternator or is there any other quirks with the twin air that cause it maybe pulley or belt?
