Just bought the girlfriend a nice little N plate Cinq Sporting 1.1,
and am finding that the fan kicks in after about only 5 miles of steady driving....The fan seems to come on at around 90 which i understand to be correct...so is the engine heating up to fast ???
I am going to give the radiator a reverse flush this weekend to see if that helps....any other ideas ????

When i first bought mine it seemed to shoot up to 90 all the time. As soon as the radiator blew up (it was inevitable) I had a new one put in and the temp never goes up to 90 now unless for a long time. It just clicks on for a couple of seconds and then goes off again. During normal driving the temp sits just below the next mark down all the time.

The cooling system on cinqs is marginal anyway, the fan will run a lot in traffic (e.g. 30 secs on, 30 secs off). Mine will run to 100'c on the gauge if stuck in stationary traffic but no higher - what you're getting is normal for a cinq. If you are going to flush the rad anyway, which isn't a bad idea as it should be done every 2 years to prevent internal corrosion and possibly head gasket failure, don't forget the fresh antifreeze.

Welcome to the forum, too!

Pete,
The problem is that the temperature seems to reach 95c-100 when travelling at say 60mph (out of town and traffic) and this temperature is reached very quickly, say 5-10mins driving. As far as i am aware the fan comes on and then stays on.
So what you are saying must suggest that something is definatly pear shaped with the cooling system. lets hope a good flushing can rectify it.
I've Just had the Head skimmed and Gasket replaced, so that can be ruled out. HEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLP !!!!!

my cars terrible at cooling 2 it ran at 100C when i went 2 Liverpool on the hottest day of the year and that was with the heaters on and in traffic hit 115C i done cooling fan, flush, new heater radiator and got thermostat 2 do next last looks like radiator cud b nxt then

mine stop at just under 100 if im in traffic or nailing it down the motorway, otherwise it sits between 85-95.

i think it must be a fiat thing...

I've got someone doing me a badboy bonnet, before it's all sprayed up and fitted I might see about getting a bonnet scoop/vent put in it. Might help it cool down a bit. What do you all reckon?

80 quid was the cheapest i could find

You'll find em in the Cinq and Sei sections of eBay for £50 or so.

A scoop won't help (how could it?) a vent in the right place might. But before you get the nibbler out see this and especially the comment that a standard Sei/Cinq in good condition shouldn't need extra cooling!

Yeah 90 even on the flat at speed is to hot, you have issues then see cento gen section for my take on cooling cinqs, thread started by Abarth owner cos I can't be arsed copying it here.
