When i got pulled over for "accelerating too quickly" (although in a 55sx.. that shouldn't be possible, lol), the cop radio'd back to the control room and checked my details. came back all clear so off i went.

he said they were trying to do away with the producer slips in this area, cause if the name you give doesn't match the registered owner of the vehicle you could get arrested. that's what he reckoned though, sounds a bit odd to me?

That's what i thought? i was in a 30 limit, as soon as i hit 30 i stopped accelerating, then i saw the blue flashers behind me. he said it could have been dangerous considering it was in a "resedential area" (which only has 3 houses in btw) and i could have hurt someone

I reckon he was just bored and wanted something to do.

i got given a producer after my crash, but never got one when i was pulled over in a dodgy part of town at 3am :chin:, they just did a vehicle check on the roadside and i showed them some ID

good old producers hey!
Currently when you have a check done on you over the radio, it will come back with who the car is registered to and now whether insurance is held (more and more is being put on here but not all is) aswell as mot. In cases where insurance and mot is not held on the system, a producer will be issued to check that you do have these. Also, if the insurance comes back in another name or the car in another name, one may be issued to check aswell.

Hopefully a while bit down the line there may not be the need! Its a great way to catch people without insurance mot or license though! (these people who put our insurance up!!)

If the details coming back show no MOT/insurance do they get to drive back home or is the car impounded?

It just means that its not held on the system as its a fairly new thing and obviously with mot and insurance only being new once a year, it will take a while for it all to be compiled!

If you find out that there IS NO mot or insurance then its a whole different board game which is likely to result in a seized car

Can I just ask the resident policement, does there have to be some grounds for suspicion to give someone a producer? Ryan obviously has to go to the station now, which might take some time, depending on where he lives. Suppose you got given a producer every 2 weeks! All that wasted time.... unless he was actually doing something wrong (apart from looking 12).
Also I think the car you drive has a lot to do with it. When I had a Citroen AX (which isn't a great car, but it was in good condition) I got stopped by the police about 8 times. Since then, had a Fiesta, Coupe, Primera and Panda, all newer, and never been stopped.
