In the last two weeks I have noticed a smell coming from the rear of the car once it has been switched off. The smell is of Paraffin. Now I am sure it is the Auxilliary Heater burning diesel as you can hear the heater running. But this is now the third Winter that I have had the car and I don't recall smelling this before. It is quite strong. Anybody else experienced this.

Yes, I have only had the car for 8 months, but I have noticed this. It is most noticeable if I start the car in cold weather and switch off before the engine has warmed up (eg putting the car away in the garage). There is the sound of a jumbo jet winding down and a smell of paraffin (even some smoke / vapour in the cold air!)

Fortunately I found out about the existence of the heater from this forum before the cold weather, otherwise I would of papped myself!! :D

If you drive for about a mile and then turn the engine off, smoke will pour out from the underside of the car - always worries them at the local petrol station!
