Hi all,

I think this may have already been asked but i'm gonna ask again anyways. :p

Is there any way of hooking up an audio source into my Sony CDX-S2200 headunit (http://www.sony.co.uk/ShowProduct.do?site=odw_en_GB&category=ICA+CD+Tuners&product=CDX-S2200)

My original thoughts were to hook up an external audio output to play via my already installed headunit but now i have realised there are no inputs on it! :bang:

Since there is no input connections on the headunit itself i am pretty sure that it will not be possible, if anyone has any suggestions (preferably not "buy a new headunit" since i have just bought this one  )

Cheers

Get an Fm Transmitter/Modulator same difference, different name

Basically plug into the headphone socket on whatever you want to play mp3 player etc..... then tune in your H/U to that freq...

They work quite well to and your mates can listen to your music too... ;)

is there a wired version of those? to plug direct into the HU's aerial in? cos that would give better quality wouldnt it?

if you can get them, where from?

me is a PITA ;)

will get some photos of me car up soon + project i worked on for my mates MG

Wired version- Probably but the transmitter is an easier option move it from car to home to mates car etc.....

What do you want to actually play through the headunit?

Mp3-Player?

What car have you got/

its for a carpc project so i wouldnt be bothered about mobility, once its wired up it'd be staying in the car. sorry about being vague before.

its a Punto active sport (mk2 i believe, 04 plate) broom yellow

A wired unit would produce the same quality, and in fact would still broadcast... You should be made aware that they are illegal as the broadcast on comercial bands, but don't let that worry you ;) ! FM radio is limited in quality due to the bandwidth they are allowed to occupy.

You may wish to use some sort of switch to switch the source to your amp, for example from your iPod audio out to your Head unit, this may be a better solution?

looking like a new headunit then, i did find a HU on the net somewhere with an AUX in for <100 beans.

I was surprised to find out that they are infact illegal Alex, the sale of the iTrip is infact against the law as per the Wireless Telegraphy Act of 1949!

The best thing to do is buy a HU with an AUX IN.

The second best solution is outlined above, although Jamie said a FM modulator, which is a frequency modulator modulator ;) (like say ATM machine or PIN number). I did a DIY one myself and it worked ok actually. TBH though, it's best to have an aux in. I used my FM transmitter to listen to the TV in the shower/listen to digital radio on FM frequency in the shower.

Hmm, an FM modulator is the cheapest option, as already said the quality is nothing to shout about but atleast its worth a go. Don't know where you've seen them but Maplin Electronics have them for £29.99, bargain (y)
Check it out here.

think i am just gonna go with a new hu, found one with aux in for about 80 quid, but its early so i'm not sure if i'm remembering that right.

will check again later on

The Negotiator said:
And for the record, the HU I had which had a AUX in on the front (along with DAB facility etc.) was the JVC sx992r, for example:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=39759&item=5738451644&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

However, it's not worth that, they usually sell on ebay for 50-100.

hey negotiator - i have the jvc HU and do not know how to activate the aux line in on the HU. i thought it was plug and play, so i plugged in my ipod, tried changing the mode by pressing the 'cd' button, and nothing happened. any help you can give me?]

cheers.

sachin.
