Just been phoned at 9am ffs!!!

Was the guy that hit me car on friday! After getting all the insurance folks involved, to the point Im just waiting for an engineer to come out and write off me car, he's suggesting we go back the "private settlement" route - I go get a quote for the repairs (this time, a fixed quote so we know what it'll actually cost) and he pays it. No insurers.

Only trouble being, until the car is actually stripped, there doesn't seem to be anyway of getting a fixed quote. So, what the hell do I do?! It's not a matter of trust, I quite believe the guy's willing to pay, but will the insurers think Im pulling a fast one if I suddenly turn round and say "well, its ok, my cars a right-off but I dont mind!"

Why the hell have I got so many choices! ARGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!

**** this, brekkie time!

get the body shop to give you a fixed higher price than estamated and if the work cost less than quoted you have some change in your back pocket.

but you also risk it costing a bit more

be carefull on this one get the money first before you get the job done
then go to a smaller body shop that will do the job for alot less.

good luck martyn

I could do that, but then hmmmm I'd feel guilty as ****! I don't want to rip the boy off, I know that in the eyes of the law he's at fault, but it was the complete TOSSER in the BMW in front of me that stopped from nowhere, who really caused the accident. Neither of us got his reg, so we cant even report him!

Last thing I want to do is profit from the crash. I just want my car back on the road and looking good (again!) although the back on the road part doesnt seem to be a problem just now!!! :D

Still no sign of the insurance engineer - getting VERY pissed off now! If the car is a write off then theres little point in settling privately! But I wont know till their engineer comes round and has a good gander!

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lookin VERY likely that insurance will write it off!

Their bastard assessor has never turned up yet, and Im left wondering where the hell to go from here! If we settle privately I keep my car, but the other guy is MAJORLY out of pocket! Otherwise, I loose money off the cars value, and am left ****ed as to getting a replacement!

Looking even more certain that Betsy will be written off on Tuesday now :( :( :(

Got two estimates through in the post today, both scarily close in price....we're talking the guts of 1200 quid! I think Ellon (who I'd happily use after seeing there work) were 1200 and a few pence, Kinghorn (another good bodyshop) were something like 1270! So, chances are the rest of the quotes won't be THAT far out!

DAMMIT!

it doesn't matter how much it costs to repair. your car won't be written off. it's his insurance company paying out, not yours

Well, here we go!

Got a phone call half an hour ago fae some company or another who r dealin wi the claim. They're (hopefully) comin round the day to look at the car, just waitin for KINGHORN + ELLON to fax them quotes for repairs and gonna take it from there!

Fingers (and toes and anything else thats crossable) crossed!

good luck with it mate. hope all go's to plan from now on

I wish. Was a no-show. Had to nip out for a couple hours, but the guy never got back in contact. There were folk in all day, so it wasnt like he knocked but couldnt get a hold of anyone.

I think an angry phone call or two might be needed now!

Bumped. Didnt get the chance to phone yesterday, but Im getting to be an impatient mo-fo and will be on the phone to them later!

I actually got a letter from them...it says something along the lines of ...

"...act upon the behalf of _______ to ensure your claim is dealt with quickly and efficiently, with minimum inconvenience to yourself"

HA!

BTTT cos the assessor has finally been! Thought he'd turn up in scruffy boiler suit + a van...but oh no, big fancy lexus and a proper pinstrip suit job!

Took 5 seconds to look over the car, tell me hes gonna persue one of the companies to fax him a quote, and we're gonna take it from there...

So finally, the car has been "assessed" but I'm still none the wiser as to whats going on. Does look like the car will be getting repaired though, which is always a good thing :)
