Hi there, I'm just hoping you could talk to somebody that really knows the Fiat twin cam engines well. I'm trying to find out about parts interchangeability, turbocharging, etc. Thank you

Hello,

On the bottom of the forum banner you've got a link to ePER, it's a FIAT spare parts catalogue. You can browse by models and categories or search by VIN.
Having a specific part number you can search which models the same part was used in.

Of course it will show you the 'official' interchangeability only.

The search window is top left of the screen.

Good luck :)

Hey there, thank you so much. I really appreciate your quadrant I'm not sure that's going to help me figure out how to build a copycat thema turbo engine!

Hi The 8v turbos we’re based on the 2 litre block. All blocks are interchangeable the later FWD cylinder heads are reversed port so that the exhaust side is on the right hand side looking from the front of the engine. Try to get hold of a copy of the late Guy Crofts book on the twin cam it’s an excellent reference source.

Is the linea a good base to build a turbo and will the thema turbo manifolds fit up to it? Is there a site that lists the various transaxle types? I'd I've that book even though it doesn't seem to cover the modern stuff...prices are eye watering.....

All the parts on 8v such as manifolds are interchangeable. You will find that there are various different water pumps and front pulleys etc which need to be matched. By linea do you mean the car based on the Grande Punto. Maybe explain what it’s you’re thinking of building.

Just in case, ePER covers Themas since 1988 :

And the 16 valve?

Sorry to hijack this thread, but you may be able to confirm a build i am about to undertake is viable as you seem to have some good knowledge on these...

I have a HF Turbo whose bottom end shells were going. Upon engine strip the block needs a lot of work and so I have been considering all options. I have sourced and bought a Fiat Strada 130tc engine which looks to be in remarkable condition. The good thing is its the 2.0 block without the balance shafts so I wont have to worry about the extra belt fouling pipe runs, mounts etc. comparing bottom ends it appears I can put some Integrale 8v pistons straight into this block as all the crank and con rod dimensions are the same. I will also put my HFT head on as that's been port/polished, triple cut valves, high rise cams etc. and the head is also right for the engine angle of the Delta. ECU wise i have an Integrale 8v and HFT i can use, and whatever works best for the setup id get mapped/chipped anyway for optimum running and performance

In effect it would be a 2.0 8V turbo 2wd Delta. but is there anything you can see i haven't considered? I'm expecting something to cause a hurdle or issue, but it appears on paper like a really viable and fairly simple solution.

That sounds interesting. Yes it will work as you’ve described. The only thing to check is bonnet clearance as the block is taller due to the longer stroke but it should be ok. With that spec I would expect some heathy power.

Good point on the bonnet clearance! the Integrale bonnets was very slightly raised compared to the HF Turbo and HF4wd, although the HF4wd was a 2.0. still something i will look at closely thank you.

I am hoping so, i think 190-200bhp should be achievable quite comfortably. I'm sure everything else will cope with that too - gearbox, chassis etc.
