F1 cars have more technology and 'Aids' than most cars but you can hardly claim that F1 drivers "can not drive" the reason they have that technology on those cars is that sometimes technology does a better job than even the best can muster
I like the way you compare cars loaded with drivers aids to "white goods".
You don't actually think that Formula 1 is a drivers championship do you?
I am still reeling at the idea that in these days of flights being available for the price of a bus ticket- somebody has reached the age of 25 without going on a plane!
Did anybody see the 5th Gear piece on DSC a few years back. Tiff drove an Astra (I think) and simulated an emergency change of direction at 70mph (the Elk test in Sweden) . With DSC there was no drama. Without it the car very nearly rolled. And Tiff can drive a car!
This is the insurance issue with self driving cars. If the driver is at fault then liability and therefore any claim is their responsibility. Self driving cars will have to be the owners responsibility. This is as ridiculous as sitting in the back of a Taxi and being to blame if the driver crashes it.
A mind that narrow doesn't like change. Or indeed any view of the world that risks changing the opinion he gleaned from watching old top gear and something his mate said down McDonald's car park on a Friday night.
McDonald's car park? I'm not a chav you know.
I just don't see the point in going abroad (especially in this age of cutting CO2 emissions) when there's beautiful places in this country.
If CO2 was such a concern for you why do you drive a car that pumps out nearly 50% more of the stuff than almost all newer cars of the same size?
This is the current purpose built self driving electric Google car.

It has no controls and does not need to be followed about it is fully autonomous.
Judging by Google's information it's also restricted to test tracks currently. The Lexus RX is on the public roads but has a driver and conventional controls if necessary. They are in the process of moving to a stage after that but on public roads they will still have a driver on board.
With your given scenario it's easy to say it simply wouldn't happen. The Google car leaves big gaps, huge In fact, between it and other cars and with it's radar and lidar systems means it can react to things as quickly as the car in front is reacting. It may even detect and respond to an obstacle before the Audi would. It's not simply following what it sees on a camera it maps it's environment in 3D, in real time so it can act accordingly to anything that enters that space. It knows it's stopping distances and can plan it's follow distance as needed. Even with budget tyres it's unlikely to cause any issue.
If something did happen and the car was found to have caused an accident then the manufacturers are saying they will take on the liability them self, however the question with that are would they take responsibility if you fitted cheap poor quality tyres that differ from manufacturers specifications.
In the grand scheme of things the technology is already better than a normal human driver
My issue would be computers are very good at hard and fast rules so if you say to it of this happens do that, it will without question. A driver is fallible but a computer can be incredibly stupid if it finds a situation it's hasn't even been programmed for. When I hear google are cold weather testing them in Arjeplog then maybe I'll think a bit more of them. Automating bumbling round California is not the same as automatically driving in a European winter
I'm sure most Chavs are better travelled then you, however I also do believe you don't go hang round the drive through with your mates? But do tell us all about the beautiful places in this country you regularly visit?

My daughters brand new corsa cost half to insure what her 15 year old pug 206 did.Fair enough. I was genuinely (and pleasantly!) surprised when having gone from the base model mk2b to my top of the range, more powerful, more valuable Grande, I had expected my insurance to go up!

You feel the need to lecture anyone whose opinions differ to yours, Generaly just you because of the idiotic things you post and you post comments which are little more than thinly disguised insults, I don't thinly disguise anything yet you accuse others as being trolls? again, just you
If you feel the need to attack me about my choice of car yet again, allow me to explain things: OK I bought the newest car I could afford. I appreciate thatIt's emissions may be higher than the misleading figures claimed by manufacturers for models launched since mine, Are you 100% sure yours are accurate? however, I drive around 5k a year in my Grande. So here's a rhetorical question for you: Its cute that I taught you the work rhetorical and you try and use it in context but just don't get it. with that in mind, plus the fact that I don't feel the need to go abroad,You stated you don't go abroad for reasons of CO2 emissions I simply called you out because if you care so much about CO2 then there are other cars you could of bought instead of yours for the same money whose carbon footprint is larger, mine or yours? Of course mine I have 3 cars and have already racked up over 3,000 miles on my golf since September the first, our 2012 mini is edging 60k miles and my punto (which i still have) is on 118k miles, I've also had 2 foreign holidays in the last year and am due to go away again soon
Work that out, and don't worry about replying to me. but i wanted to Just bear these things in mind next time you're considering a sarcastic comment, consider it considered or feeling the need to lecture ANYBODY on here who dares to think differently to you.
Ta!
I see! That is a surprise! Insurance companies do little to remove the reputation they have for trying to rip you off.
There are two simple points I need to make.
1. I get you love your car, every member of this forum love's their car thats why they are here. However what sets you apart is your unending insistence that your run of the mill 1.4, "pick the kids up and run them to football on a saturday" Mom Hatch back is anything more special than that. Once you accept it for what it is and stop going into other parts of the forum (like the 500 forum) to tell every one how great your Grande is the better.
2. Stop posting such stupid things, you don't appear to read what others say you just reply, usually by quoting their entire post so no one has any idea what you are specifically talking about and usually then argue to the end of time that what ever stupid thing you said is right regardless.
Not that long ago i had a lot more respect for you, you used to act sensibly and ask proper questions and make proper comments, now you just act like a troll.
Stop acting like a troll and i'll stop calling you out on it.
