can any one sheed light on why my arbarth has burnt 6.5 litres of oil in 3.5 months and 6000 miles. There is no evidence of a oil in the engine well or on the ground wher i park.
Secondly if this is abnormal (which I personally think) what come back do I have.

Regards :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:

Howmany miles has it done from new? (roughly) Some engines burn a lot of oil during the first few thousand miles or so. hence the stupid 2500mile first service on some cars.

Right the only reason that the car could be burning is that the piston rings aren't working properly. This usually happens from cold as hte piston rings aren't lubricated. I would take it to FIAT if its still in warranty myself and tell them.

Fiat consider up to a litre per 1000miles ok as far as I remember - it is specified in the manual.

My Abarth went through a litre suddenly at around the 3000 miles mark, then stopped using it again!

This subject has been posted before I put a reply up that kinda makes scence. I'll find it and cut/ paste it for you hope it helps

Be carefull guys. I've got an Abarth and I noticed that I kept getting an oil pressure light come on, especially if I was going round a sharp right handed corners. I looked it the book and noticed that it says "Max. engin oil consumption is usually 400 grams every 1000km."
Now even if you use just half this amount 200g per 1000km between 20000km services, as my car is, you will use 4000g, thats 4kg. now thats clever as the abarth and jtd only hold 4kg.
the 1.8 holds 3.7 and the 1.6 just 3.5.
ALWAYS top your oil put!
It stopped my warning light comming on. You'd be propperly FCUKed if you ran out

Pretty much all manufacturers recommend you check the oil every 1000miles or before any long trip.

Tends to be 16v engines, or in the case of the Abarth 20v engines tend to burn more oil then their 8v counterparts.

I've put 1/2 litre of oil in my Stilo over the past 12500miles.

1l every 1000 is normal, some alfa's want 1.5l per 1000. keep it topped up with fully synthetic(helix ultra, castrol rs etc) keep you eye on the OP gauge you may see it drop a bar at idle, time to fill up. keep oil in your boot because it's not always possible to get fully synthetic.
