I watched a DVD on Saturday night of a Brazilian film called 'City of God'

http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0317248/

It's all about kids in gangwars during the 60's & 70's in Rio de Janeiro. Personally, I thought it was an excellent film, and would recommend it.

I found there are a lot of good films out there to discover if, like me, you don't mind subtitles.

So does anybody else like Foreign Films??

Some other foreign films I've seen and thought were excellent are;

'Amelie' http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0211915/
'Jean De Florette' http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0091288/
the sequel 'Manon des Sources' http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0091480/
'Spoorloos' (The Vanishing) http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0096163/
and
'Das Boot' http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0082096/
to name a few.....

Amelie was alright...don't mind subtitles but the french do make some really obscure films that even with the english make no sense. Better than American cheese tho.

I watched a couple on the BBC actually, was a BBC three on two night. One german one, one french.

The German one was about a pyschology project in a prison situation, I wish I could remember, maybe called "the project" - one of the best films (regardless of language!) I have seen, really interesting watch.

The French one was a bit of a comedy, missed some of it so didn't get it completely but it was really entertaining, I left for Poland 3am that morning, I watched it until 1:30am lol, whoops! It was about a man who had to pretend he was a homosexual to stay in his job, really funny story line! No idea of name though :(

Would like to watch both of them again though.

Do japanese horror films count?

Aside from that I've seen a fair few European art house movies and they are without exception very surreal and dificult to understand, despite subtitles. Saw Manon de Source and that wasn't bad though :). Back in the days I could actually understand what they were saying :(

But if it was a mega heavy duty frying pan you could fend of the bullets til the opponent was all out of rounds then mash him to a bloody pulp with said heavy duty frying pan
