Hi! My first post and was hoping somebody could help me out.

My misses' Fiat Punto Mk2 was suffering from a worn ball socket on the windscreen wiper arm the other day and I discovered this cable near the wiper motor when reattaching:

Any suggestions?

She also has a pesky engine management light I need to look into (drives fine) and what can be described as a tappet-like noise when labouring the engine... But that will hopefully be resolved when I get my vagcom 409 cable and use fiatecuscan.net!

Cheers,

Oli

Looks like the plug for the wiper motor with a bad case of green rot. Has the wiper motor been rewired by any chance?
Welcome to Fiatland btw

I suppose it is possible - although the motor is still working and connected up!

Yes it clearly hasn't been used for some time so would definitely need a clean up - I just wanted to be sure it wasn't an engine sensor connector of some sort that could be causing the engine management fault I guess!

Thanks for the welcome!

you've taken the best route there
Get the fault code - make a note / post it on here
We can then advise you further

Tapping could be a valve bucket/shim thats slightly out - or the oil is ready for changing

Ziggy

I don't think it is oil related - changed that about 1000 miles ago as I suspected it had not been done for a while! Now has good quality Castrol in it. Was shocked at how literally it needs when I did it!

The car also struggles to start every day/morning unless you blip the throttle - and it then hunts instead of resting easily. Therefore I'm suspecting to find it is something like MAF/lambda? Sound likely?

If 8v, check tappet clearance, also check that no-one has put incorrect plugs in (the "under load" part is a bit worrying).

Hunting throttle is usually filthy throttle body or IAC unless extreme, in which case it will be an inlet air leak of some kind. Won't be lambda. MAF unlikely.

Poor starting may be dirty TDC sensor pick up.

It's a 1.2 sporting - pretty sure they are all 16v so presumably they have self-adjusting tappets?

The throttle body is presumably hidden underneath the big plastic air intake thing on top of the engine?

The TDC sensor - I vaguely remember a garage saying something about a TDC error a while ago and it could suggest that the cambelt has been done a notch out?
